Yes unfortunately the wait time between NOA1 & NOA2 for a K1 has skyrocketed in the last year. It was about 50-60 day average back in October 2016, now pushing into the 180+ range.

It is insane how much the entire process has suddenly lagged. I assume it is shifting of personnel to new priorities/work from the office that handles the K1's.

The slowdown started in late April/early May.  The USCIS reprioritized their process to handle work visas over family visas.  When that happened things hit a brick wall on the family side, at least for the K visas.  They also now send ALL K visas to the California Service Center so that was an adjustment in the workloads there.

I really thought that it would start getting better starting with the mid to late August filers.  I am not as confident now.

I had the high hopes of getting my fiancé and her son here from Brazil in the December timeframe.  Then I was contemplating about should I save my vacation time to go see her during the visa interview, or wait until the holidays to spend the "spirit" of the moment together.  As of now, I'm going to be visiting Brazil during Xmas and New Years, and I think I made a good decision doing so.  In my opinion, I think we all get frustrated because we have plans, thoughts of when we want things to happen.  One thing that my fiancé has told me and I learned, that time itself will let us know when is the right time.  I mean, it took us 4 years to finally meet each other in person.  Anyways, I'm done ranting, but I'm hoping we hear and an answer if not this year, early next year!  And the same goes to you and your loved ones, cheers!

I'm sure it's already been said, but right now it's averaging between 160-170 days for most applications. I'm a 6/26/17 filer, and I'm just now 141 days into the process. The 3 month window was from before the work visas were prioritized and we took a backburner. As of today, there are approvals trickling in for 5/31, and early June filers are hoping to start seeing NOA2s this week. There's nothing you can do to speed up the process unless the US filer is an active member of the military getting ready to be deployed, or you have some catastrophic series of events that could qualify you for expediting. Unfortunately, until the USCIS processing times page shows that they're processing applications after yours, you can't put in a request for expediting otherwise. At this point in time, all you can really do is sit back, try and relax (easier said than done), and work on getting together anything you can for the visa interview at the embassy so there's less wait time once you do receive your golden ticket of an NOA2. Keep screenshots of your chats with your fiancee, to provide further proof to the embassy employee that you have an ongoing relationship, and use this time to just plan and save and try your damndest to not worry about the wait time at the CSC. When I first started on here, my estimated NOA2 received date was 10/1/17. Now it's 12/14/17. I've been engaged for 7 months and I'm so beyond ready to be married! XD Check on here for reviews for the embassy your visa will be interviewed for at, and you can get an idea of a timeline for the next steps from that. I know my fiancee's interviewing in Auckland NZ, and they've got a relatively quick turn around (~20 days or so) once the embassy has received your case, so long as you're on the ball with the medical and other things. Other, busier embassies take longer, but you can cut down some of the wait time by making sure you've already got your police records and any other paperwork you'll need for the interview ready to go before the case gets to the embassy.

Good luck!

I'm a June 6 filer and I also had thoughts of Christmas together.  Those were crushed within days of filing.  Now I am hoping for a January interview and POE in February.  That is still pushing it.  I'm at day 161 now and June hasn't even been touched.  It is very frustrating and it is worse once you add in the holidays.  Between the US and Filipino holidays, there will be 10 days off for the rest of the year at the Embassy in Manila.  A short week next week at USCIS and then the "Holidaze Spirit"...

I am going to Manila in early December and that will help the rest of the time go by.

We will all get through this but always remember it is about the pot of gold at the end of the journey, not the journey itself.  USCIS has slowed down.  NVC has slowed down.  Once you get past those you have some control back.  I hope we all get there as soon as humanly possible.  Always stay positive.  We will get through this and right now, there is nothing we can do about the wait.

The only expediting I've seen has been for active military so far.  I haven't heard of any for disaster areas but it may be true.  There were only about 5 expedited June petitions out of 3800 that I've seen.  They are very rare.

I can't think of it recently happening, but they did expedite cases out of the Philippines for a period of time after the typhoon hit.

Rest assured, its coming. Ours was delayed and took almost one year from start to finish. USCIS lost our petition and it was never sent to the NVC. I eventually got my state senator involved. It didn't take long after that. USCIS found our file(s) in a box tucked away in a storage area.

You know, I was just on the phone  with USCIS rep indicating the same thing, all he said is you have to wait 90 days(three times longer than what the I797 says). And he was telling me that because it's been over two months since approval of petition and yet, NVC has no documents, while there are members on here that were approved at the approx same time as mine, and yet they have already had their interviews. It took us 5 months for approval of petition. So to the OP, all cases are unique and can vary drastically each person's timeline.

I literally just got my NOA2 today a few min ago. Got the text notification while i was driving to work. To say I'm excited is an understatement. From NOA1 to NOA2 was 187 days ago. To say be patient is not an easy thing to say or to be, it is surely a struggle to keep hope, especially when no updates for months and months but it will come. I wish the rest of the May fillers and other best of luck and i hope you get the same great news we got today very very soon.

  • 1 month later...

Hi all again, I feel so frustrated with this whole process, its been 5 months 2 days and nothing. I am moving this weekend so I will have to send a letter of change of address hopefully that get my case moving. So frustrated because we could of gotten married in his country on my last visit but we decided K1 fiance visa was faster. Don't think he will get here until April-May. Why are they taking so long?

Hi Mercy;

This is the August filers thread. You will find other people who are waiting and filed the same month you did.

Things are backed up for all of us. There are people still waiting to hear back - and they filed in May.

Hi guys, I am an August filer and its been almost 6 months and no news. My fiance and I were planning a Feb 14 wedding since we though the process would be less then 6 months. I am going to go visit him in February and I'm considering just getting married and applying for Husband visa. Could this be a problem since we already have a case on file? Anyone done this before? I really wanted my wedding date to be 2/14/18.

The K1 visa process is taking 6-7 months for the NOA2, then additional time for the transition to the NVC/your fiance's country. Did you research the processing times when you applied in August?

If you want to visit him in February and get married, you can do that - just cancel your current petition and file the CR1. Keep in mind that this would mean waiting an additional 12-14+ months for the CR1 to be processed whereas you may get NOA2 for your current visa in the next month or so. What you do is up to you.
