My husband and 3 kids applied for passports and passport cards last March 28. We received email today that it’s been printed and we should receive it by April 17. 

 

Do you guys think we’ll get it all at the same time?

i got email with tracking no and it will be delivered on Monday. I submitted application along with my son, but his status is still processing. Hope they don't ask anything for him.

3/13/2017 (Day 267) - Online status updated - new card being produced

3/16/2017 (Day 270) - Online status updated - new card was mailed to me

3/20/2017 (Day 274) - 10 year green card on hand!!

I applied for my First US passport on March 28 and got the passport in the mail on April 12. I applied From the Post-office in Redmond Oregon and the passport was sent from Seattle. Fast and painless. I'm waiting to get my  naturalization document back.

Funny enough they sent me a confirmation that they had received my application on April 12th before cashing the check on the 13th. No word back since, but 13th was Friday and today is monday so I think I just need to be more patient...

So, I’m wondering why not?

Oh wow! I didnt know any of this! Thanks. I am planning on applying for my passport the day I take my oath and now I am thinking I will do the passport card as well. Do they require a different set of passport photos for it? or they use the same one you submit for the passport?

Passport book arrived today (barely making the 3PM delivery commitment on Priority Mail Express). Passport card and cancelled existing passport are pending (born in the US so no naturalization cert, but I figure they take any prior proof of citizenship whether naturalization or US passport and just mail it back the same).


Expedited passport application from NY (would go to TX mailing normally, but expedited applications go to PHL). Passport Book itself was printed/mailed from AR.

The photo requirement is the same. If you do a DS-11 for a new passport, you just pay the extra $30 for the card, you don't have to get another set of photos or pay the execution fee again. If you do a DS-82 to renew an existing passport book, you can add the card on for an extra $30/10 years on top of your existing renewal other than that or any need to submit another set of photos (they're the same).

Thank you so much for the response. So silly question : I feel like my handwriting sucks and can be unclear! I hate it lol so do they require you to actually hand-fill the passport application or can I download a form somewhere then type everything then print that to take to the post office?

My handwriting is total garbage so I always fill out forms on computer when possible.

 

Luckily you can fill out the DS-11 (form for first time applicants and anyone ineligible to renew with form DS-82) using the form filler here on state.gov and it will let you fill out everything with what you typed except the bottom half of page 2 (which is for the person at whatever acceptance facility you apply at, like your local post office, to fill out about the identity documentation you showed them - not for you to fill out) and your signature on the application (which obviously needs to be done by hand and is only done at the place you apply when the acceptance agent there asks you to sign the form). It also generates a barcode at the top left of page 1 of the application that they can scan to automatically pull up a bunch of the information you typed when they receive your application.

Another note: I picked the large book (52 pages) and now my new passport doesn't fit in the leather passport holder I previously had... Unless you're a highly frequent international traveler,  listen to the advice on the form and pick the standard 26 page book.

Awesome!! You have been very helpful and I thank you much. I will come back to this thread right after my oath to get all the helpful information and apply for both my passport card and book (yes i will remember your tip to get the standard as I only travel internationally once or twice a year anyway)

Spent half my day at the 'passport day' here in dallas yesterday 04-28-18 at the government building! I kinda wish I had just gone to the post office which would have taken less time but I am glad its done. They gave me a receipt and told me to track online so I think I will do that probably starting Friday.
