Then how can someone defend this guy?  I know, the offenses seem minor, but rules are rules and laws are laws.  There was a guy in Detroit just deported back to Mexico recently.  He didn't qualify for DACA, and he triggered a 10 year bar when he tried to AOS through his wife back in 2005.  He and the lawyers dragged it out until now, but just a week ago he was sent back to Mexico.  The wife blamed Trump, but this whole thing started long before Trump.  If this couple came on this board and asked for advice how would we respond?  Most folks would be as matter-of-fact as possible and inform the guy that a 10 yr bar was going to happen.  Why not go back in 2005 and serve the bar?  He could have been back by now.

The guy might have a 9C ban which requires him to serve 10 years outside US -> non-waiver able.

Their lawyers could be guilty of selling them false hope to stay in US.

I'm not defending him with the exception that I just think the reason is a tiny bit silly. Either man really. Though I would point out that ICE's efforts might be put to better use in finding people that aren't making an effort to contribute to this society and are undertaking serious crimes. Yes the law is the law, but I think we all agree the system needs some reforms. I don't believe that a very small offense relating to when he was a teenager should be used against him, just as it shouldn't be used against a citizen either. I think that the DUI should have been the more serious issue to me. We see lots of people coming on here all the time looking for advice, regarding past crimes and waivers, and there's plenty of completely ignorant persons in the mix too. I assume the Polish man could attempt some sort of waiver in the future, though that won't help him now. Both of these men have very complicated cases, seem very uninformed, and needed real help. I'm not sure they were well served by lawyers.

Here is another odd case. https://www.thedailybeast.com/ice-to-deport-immigrant-for-sham-marriage-that-was-real-ex-wife-says This probably wouldn't have even happened to this guy had he been more aware and informed.

so you are ok with mass deporting all illegals

Illegal immigrants that are not those who are a part of DACA? Sure. Never said I wasn't. I do believe some persons flee with their children across the border to escape horrific situations. I'd like to see some sort of pathway for those individuals with kids who fled here and can prove their lives were under threat due to cartels/sex trafficking/slavery or such and I think there is better humanitarian stuff we can do. No pathways for extended family though

How many Countries offer chain immigration in the first place?

USA immigration laws have been very generous.

Time to change to merit-based immigration.

How many countries allow immigrants to bring their spouses and children?  Most of them.

I dont think anyone has a problem with that. Its when they start bringing over cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts

Wife and child I dont think would be an issue

Here are the annual immigration quotas by preference class:

First: Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second: Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents: 114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, and any unused first preference numbers:
A. Spouses and Children: 77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;
B. Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older): 23% of the overall second preference limitation.

Third: Married Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.

Fourth: Brothers and Sisters of Adult Citizens: 65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences.

No wapo is giving a theory as to why he was detained. If I was to hazard a guess, after reading several stories, it was because he was given an order to appear and failed to do so.

Doesn’t something like this result in a little thing called a “warrrant for your arrest”, typically?

So you can not just ignore it?

There is no way to petition cousins or aunts. You are basically saying there's an issue with people petitioning for siblings then? The F4 category is already capped at 65000 annually. People in this category have died of old age  before seeing there priority dates become current.

Everyone has their own agenda, I guess. I've run into a few people that have a bigger issue with the K1 actually. Bringing someone to the US who is not related and not married rubs some people the wrong way. They make arguments that must sound pretty good to their own ears. I have to laugh. So many big fish to fry with immigration reform, and everybody's out there trying to catch minnows.

Not to live permanently no. Just go try to move to the UAE with your family and then overstay your visa. I would like to see what happens after that.

Like I say when,  you see an agenda based story. There has to be more to it. They get easy to spot ad the press becomes more desperate.

I must say, you have a knack for spotting things like this.  I remember the whole Darren Wilson debacle,  and you said wait, there's more to come...

I know exactly what will happen.  And no, it does not include them giving you one of the abandoned Lambos from the airport parking lot...

Trust me I have lived in the UAE and Qatar. I have seen regular teenagers with Lambos at a regular crappy mall hanging out with their friends, and these teenagers aren't rich by Qatari standards either.

There was an amusing article about fake stuff in the Graun the other day, comments open which is unusual.

Inevitably people mentioned all the ####### they post as news and how two faced it is.
