Minor when Naturalized, Only have Passport/Passport Card

Hello VJ!

I was a minor when my parents were naturalized as US citizens back in 2010 and I became naturalized under them as well. My parents had my passport/passport card made as proof of citizenship. I am now 25, and I'd like to know what I need to do in order to have a naturalization certificate as well.  Would it be the N-600?

If N-600, then what am I to enter for my "admission into the US" section?

My old Pakistani passport which I used to arrive in the US (at 6 months old) was taken and destroyed from me when I worked for a US Missile defense company in order to mitigate the intention of holding a "dual citizenship" and to fulfill the requirements to hold a security clearance. So I do not have that information for that section of the N-600 form.

Please advise, Any info would help, thank you in advance!

If you hold a US passport already, you would have had to at one point had a Naturalization/Citizenship Document. With that being said your parents might still have it, if they don't and have moved since then and it has become lost you simply need to till out form N-565 to get a replacement.

This is not correct. if your parents become citizens BEFORE your 18th birthday you automatically become a citizen and get your passport by going to the USPS office and sending all the required documents showing parents are citizens ect. It is not required to apply for a actual notarization certificate. its a additional fee but not necessarily needed.

You’ll have to visit USCIS and apply for a certificate of citizenship (N-600). This will take a dent on your wallet though as current fee is $1170. If you don’t remember your admission date or any other information you can always write “unknown”. It’s not a deal breaker as they’ll eventually figure out your Immigration history. Good luck!

They will not issue you a N600 Certificate you can try but they rejected for one of my friend. Cost you around $1200 for nothing.

They will not be rejected, every case is different.

This certificate is very important in future. ( Some times they ask for it-- Read different stories on forum whey and why they asked.... as I don't want to describe lengthy stories)

SABRINA,

if your parents naturalized before your 18th birthday you automatically become citizen and can apply for passport.

When I became citizen I applied for US passport for my son and then applied for N-600 in same week. He is 16.

You can submit your application along with below documents.

  • N-600 Form filled
  • Money order or check for $1170, payable to Department of Homeland Security.
  • Two recent photographs
  • Your birth certificate
  • Your parent's birth certificate
  • Proof of your parent's U.S. citizenship (Naturalization Certificate)
  • Parents' marriage certificate (and divorce documents if applicable)
  • Children born out of wedlock (if applicable-i don't think you need this)
  • Proof of custody (for children of divorced couples)
  • Permanent residency card- Front and Back
  • If you have passport -- Put the passport copy of First page.
  • Proof of the parent's physical residence in the United States (The parent has to have lived in the U.S. for at least one continuous year in the U.S. prior to your birth)
  • House lease or mortgage deed etc.
  • Adoption decree (no need for you)
  • Records of legal name changes (if necessary)

I disagree ... Theres almost no setting where you can be forced to procure the certificate of citizenship.

People may have been asked for one in different settings, but that doesn't mean you have to show it.

Ive had one for 20 years, went to college and grad school, worked in hospitals, worked for the government, work for civilian military contractors with security clearance, etc and have not been forced to show it once.
