So I was born in the UK in 1989 to a us citizen (my father) who was in the navy, and a my British mother.

due to circumstances back then he never got married to my mum, shortly after he had to go back to the US. My mum moved on and married someone else. It wasn’t until recently that we got in contact as I never knew.

unfortunately a CRBA was never filed, I’m now aged 29.

I have checked numerous websites and know I am eligible for a claim to citizenship, I am also working to get him put on my birth certificate as there was no listed father.

after this though I’m stuck with what options I have. If anyone has any information that could help that would be appreciated.

Thanks

I do. We’ve met up a couple of times and we both are struggling to find the answer. He is willing to do the test.

The problem is initiating the process. As I live in the uk and he lives in the US it has to be done through AABB certified labs. Again I don’t know how to initiate that process.

i can’t straight up apply for an American passport, which after paying the fees would include that process, as there was no CRBA filed.

So is there another route to go?

Until you get the birth certificate updated, you really can only apply for a visa as any other citizen of your country.  I'm not sure why you can't get a tourist visa.  They can only work with the documentation you can provide at the time of application. Without any documentation, you can't expect anything to happen from   Because of your age, your process won't be fast.

The only other option:  can a sample be taken in the UK and sent to a lab in the US? The sampling and performing labs needn't be the same.

So let’s say I get the birth certificate updated. What happens next?

Ideally I want to come over and live/work/study, so a tourist visa wouldn’t be ideal.

Ive already got a bachelors degree and with his job I could go back to university and study.

but I’d also need a job to support myself.

its complex and hopeful I know.

just need to know my best options as I would like to think I can get citizenship. Or st least the opportunity to get as close to it as possible due to the circumstances.

It looks like the next step is just filing for a passport with documentation showing you have a father who's a US Citizen. That's from what I see skimming what to do when you age out of Crba.

Cheers man. much appreciated.

So we wouldn’t have to go through the process of filing form I-130? I’ve seen that can take years to process. I could just straight up apply for a passport at the US embassy in London?

Thanks

It doesn't look like it from what I see.  Though I am no more experienced than you are. But that's the instruction for when you are over 18 and didn't have CRBA filed.

so he paid child support, participated in your life growing up
