I've been researching about the K-1 visa and am curious if anyone has experience on what happens during the K-1 visa if the beneficiary doesn't live in their passport country. I am a US citizen and live in the US. My fiance is from Ghana and lives in Brazil on an annual visa. He has lived there for about 2 years now. He's lived in other countries prior to that. How will this impact our application? Can he do the interview in Brazil? If so, will they scrutinize him more closely? Will he need police reports from all the countries he has lived in? Are there any other issues that might come up because he doesn't live in his passport country?

If he's legally resident in Brazil he can interview in Brazil. Many people these days live in different countries than where they hold citizenship. Due to my job I had lived in 5 countries prior to moving to the USA. It's not a problem or unusual. He will need a police certificate for every country he has lived in since the age of 16 plus his home country.

While researching the K1, pay attention to the downside of it.  The CR1 is much better for many reasons.  I originally almost forged ahead with the K1 until an attorney I consulted with refused to do it and said he only would do a CR1.  Reading posts here over the last year made me realize he was very wise.
