You can say that you were exempt the other two years, or explain why you didn't file.  Though if you just plain blew it off, it may hang you up.  If they ask for three years and get one with no explanation, it's probably a show-stopper.

Only the most recent year is required to send. The past 3 years are required to have been filed (or provide an explanation as to why you were not required to file).

I filed them all :D 2 of them, I filed a year later but I still filed.

I guess I worded my question wrong. I was wondering if they are going to ask for all 3 or just the most recent year.

Thanks for your response :)

the most recent one is mandatory, the older ones are optional.

they may ask for them in the future IF they need farther information. But for now, only the newest one is necessary

Thank you!

This is correct but you will need information from three tax returns, unless you were exempt from filing one or more of them.  At this point, think in terms of 17, 16, and 15.  Get the 17 filed if you can.  If not send it along to be carried to the interview.

they asked for all 3 of mine

i went to IRS office and got the 3 transcripts plus a copy for my records of what i sent to immigration

they can not be ones that say copy you get from a tax preparation office or site or even copies of your original ones / they should be from IRS

BTW you are married

best to file A W7 at the time you do 2017 taxes and get him included as a dependent

Casa embassy likes to see commingling of finances so this is one step to doing that

IRS site tells you how to do this

If the worry is having filed late, getting transcripts will make it less obvious, and for their purposes, the likely won't notice or care.  Showing three years of income is much stronger.  Transcripts are easy to get online in a few minutes.

NVC asked for all 3

embassy didn't need them as NVC said "already received on the checklist form"

you are looking at an interview after April 15th (from your timeline i am just guessing) so you are going to need 2017, 2016, and 2015 taxes

if before the 15th of April 2016, 2015 and 2014

This is the first I’ve heard about providing tax forms, will I be asked for these at some stage of the I-130 process?

I live in the UK apart from my wife who is in the US and my interview will be in London. Just wanted to check and clarify if I’ll be asked to provide HMRC (British) tax returns.

The petitioner will need to provide them at the NVC stage to show evidence of ability to support the beneficiary financially. The beneficiary is not required to provide these.
