Aww!!! Thank you all, lovely lovelies (and Mags in particular!) - I'm heeere! I can hardly believe it (that I'm really really here)... the flight(s - yup, flew into JFK just to get that stamp!) were fine and totally uneventful, I slept my way through both of them, pretty much. And the POE was a dream - a lot of queueing, but after all that queuing a lovely immigration officer who gave me a 'Welcome to America' (yay!) and a Hershey's Kiss ('here, this is the last kiss you'll ever get from another guy' - hah, he must have a bag of them under the desk especially for incoming female K1-ers!), followed by all of about 2 minutes in 'secondary' - I thought there might be at least some vague questions about something, but the only one I got was 'you're getting married? what would you want to go and do a thing like that for!' ( ), which wasn't quite the mini-grilling I was expecting... then I was free to go (after some bag-collecting and rechecking, obviously) enjoy the long long wait for my connecting flight. Oh, I got 'the' stamp on my I-94 - perfectly clear and legible, but the guy didn't put an expiry date on there (so it just says 'employment authorised, date:' and then nothing after that), which I hope won't be a problem... I guess it should be obvious enough that the employment authorisation expires with the I-94, but who knows! Will stick a little POE review thingy up later, for anyone coming through JFK.

Anyway, must a) drink tea, B) get dressed and c) find breakfast, then go out and try to open a bank account (US Bank down the road have assured me I don't need either a social security number or any kind of address - marvellous!), but I will no doubt be back on here later. Thank you all again for the welcome, and welcome (back!) Tracy, and welcome (home!) Adman... hope yer respective flights were as hassle-free as mine!

Yay, I am here!!!! (I keep 'remembering' - you'd have thought that it would have actually sunk in by now, given that I am clearly in Cincinnati and not in London anymore, but... nope!) Hope everyone is having a lovely sunny Monday! (F)

Congrats!! Glad everything went smoothly!

By the way - we got Dan on my bank account using my address and without SSN - just used his passport/UK DL. They were very flexible! Guess it depends on the bank.

Hah, you don't actually think I'm going to eat the chocolate, do you? Ick, Hershey's!! I'm going to keep it as a memento of the whole experience!

And yup, it is a FANTASTIC feeling, I still keep 'remembering' I'm here (I must be a bit slow on the uptake, me...) and grinning like a loon.

Welcome Feather! Enjoy the Nati!

US Bank lied - J needed his SSN & an addy, how'd you get on?

I got on just fine - they let me open an account with just my passport (& visa)... I didn't have any kind of proof of address, even... nothing! Very strange, I'm a bit mystified as to how come it was so easy... but I definitely appear to have a functioning bank account, with internet banking and everything - I had some money transferred from the UK and it showed up in there yesterday... now I'm just waiting for my debit card to arrive so I can actually spend some money!

I also went and sorted out a landline, as C. didn't have one here yet... also remarkably easy. I opened the account in my name and they didn't seem to care that I had no proof of address, no credit history, no social security number... we have our new phone number, and it will be working from tomorrow - I'm stunned about how easy that was, too!

Oh, and.... THANK YOU for the welcome!! So far I've been spending most of my time indoors, must get out and explore (we've done plenty of wandering in the evenings, though. Wandering, going for drinks, and eating. Hooray!)... so glad to be here! :D
