They're breaking the law...they have no right to speak of 'ethics'

By that logic, neither did Martin Luther King. ;)

I suspect alex has several illegal immigrants working on her estate. Why else the love of illegal immigration?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The only people who hate illegal immigrants are the poor people who cant afford them.

Go get real jobs, you bums!!!

Now. Now...no reason to get yourself all worked up. Right? It's nothing but text and characters on a screen.

Notice I made no comment about the actual thread, just that confusing the legal and the ethical is a mistake that prevents progress.

Oh dear, another case of "I ran out of arguments. Now I'll accuse the discussion partner of accusing me of ..... (fill in whatever word has the flavour d'jour) and flounce off."

So now I am not only insanely naive, but I also accused you of something which I never implied or said. I have re-read my posting very carefully - how you could come up with that accusation is beyond me.

What I did imply is that maybe you are more interested in slogans than facts or figures. How to arrive from there at the accusation you read from it - sorry, once again, that is beyond me.

Well gee, choji...it's probably because your argument makes about as much sense as if you'd run up to me and told me grass wasn't green, but magenta. This isn't opposite day, hoss.

I can certainly understand on a logical level why someone would want to go to another country to escape excruciating poverty. I can even understand on the same logical level the wish to enter that country by ways and means not legal. The basic human drive for survival is very strong and makes people do things one oneself would not feel capable of.

Poor poor Mexico. That is why the second richest man in the 'WORLD' is Mexican and lives in Mexico. Mexico's GDP is one of the top 15 out out 170 countries.

The US taxpayer and federal government are being fooled and forced to pay for these guys while Mexico laughs. Laughs as they do not have to take care of their people using their money. Plus the added advantage for their banks and businesses receiving billions of dollars from illegal immigrants who are sending untaxed money back to Mexico. It is seriously the joke of the century..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

If we want to fix this, it really has to be at the federal level.

It only can be fixed on the federal level.

Everything else would lead to chaos with consequences which make me shudder just thinking about them.

A little difficult to do when you have cities like San Fransisco openly defying federal law and basically running their own show, in terms of supporting illegal immigration..

And neither party is going to do anything about it because they want the Hispanic vote.

This is an argument one hears very often, albeit a flawed one in my opinion. Is is a well known fact that the percentage of voters among citizens of Latino/Hispanic descent is traditionally low, although a bit on the rise of lately. However, in the grand scale of things the percentage is still low enough to not have an influence for the time being and the near future.

I would even say that the tendency of the Republicans is just the opposite - as most citizens of Latino/Hispanic descent are traditionally tending to vote for the Democrats, they (the R.) seem to be interested to not have too many of those eligible to vote to exercise their rights.

All of this might change with the changes in the socio-structure in the US, but that will take a few generations to have a real impact.

Not that this is being added at a useful point in the discussion, but both sides treat the Hispanic vote as either here or there - when the Hispanic voting trends tend to run by country of origin and not the language they speak. But once again they're lumped together by pundits and politicians...

The ones who should be rightfully holding that sign should be "Native American Indians". Not illegals Mexicans from south of the border. The illegals who are so bold to say that the US territories are rightfully Mexico's, are sadly misinformed. Haven't they ever heard of the "Treaty of Guadalupe"?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Lots of Mexicans are Native Americans. It is true that one of the objectives of some illegal immigrant "rights" groups is to take back the US for indigenous people. I've known about that movement since the 1960s when I and several relatives became involved in Native American rights activism. It has little involvement from North American NAs. Most proponents and organizers are below the border Natives or metizos.

Heh, I hear that. Ever seen Mecha in action? Hate those jerks. They tried to puke on Ann Richards at the 1994 Texas Independence Day celebration at UT.
