Copies of documents at interview

Hi all,

Gathering the documents needed for the interview (the embassy just sent us packet 3). One thing, for all four applications (wife and 3 Stepkids) some requirements are the same....i.e. my marriage certificate to my wife.   The instructions say original and a copy.  Considering that they have 4 copies from the USCIS and four from the NVC do they really need 4 more?  Do they actually take these?

I'm trying to determine if I need to make four copies of everything or if we will be safe sending the original and one copy since it's one group interview (minus the clearly individual documents of course).

Thanks!

Bring the original and all requested copies just in case, but likely they won't need them.  I assume that you wrote send them in as a typo.  Don't mail in any original documents.

Not quite a typo. I'm sending my wife the documents she needs that she doesn't have (i.e my W2's etc) so I'm dealing with the copies ahead of time to save her some grief

Ah.  I thought you meant to mail them into NVC or the embassy.  Yes, your wife will need the originals.  Sometimes people mail in original birth or marriage certificates.  I was told to bring in many documents that were never asked for (W2's being one).  Still bring them, to not be caught unprepared, but many on the list are asked of everyone but may not be asked for. Or just waved off when offered.

Understood.  I guess I'm just trying to determine, I have my wife and 3 stepkids... so if I send in a my marriage license and an original.. should I be sending the original and 4 copies or if they get one copy is that good enough.  I would assume one but who knows...

Logically, one is enough.  But, each applicant has a separate file. I would bring all the copies just in case it makes one step a little smoother.  But if I were to bet money, it would be on them not needing them. I doubt it will make or break the decision, but my guiding philosophy was to make it easy for them to approve the case.

You don't need to make additional photocopies for the interview. Photocopies go to NVC (except I-864). Originals go to interview.  London has not taken additional photocopies from any interviewer for a couple of years now despite what their website continues to say. Many, many reports of being told "I don't need that" when photocopies were handed over with originals. They scan the originals now for a digital record.  Besides, they will have your photocopies already in the file from NVC.

Does that go for evidence as well?

What evidence specifically are you planning to take to your interview? List.

About three to five pictures from each trip I've made over there. A printout of updated call logs and a printout of updated Skype logs appended to what we sent to the USCIS. I figure that they really don't want my chat conversations and all of that stuff and I don't think that it would be right to have her carry a hundred Pages worth of evidence.

NONE of that needed. London will not look at it if she takes it. They want to see her original documents like marriage certificate, police certificate, etc and have a two minute chat with her.

They want what is on their checklist. Notice there is no tick box saying photos, chats, phone calls. Read their list. There is nothing from you unless you have the original marriage certificate in your possession.

London list: https://uk.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2015/11/iv_and_k_interview_checklist2014.pdf

Not mentioned on the list is her interview letter which will be shown outside to speed up getting inside. Even if she forgot to take that, they have a list and will find her name. And you do know, the new embassy opened Tuesday and she will go to 33 Nine Elms Lane, London SW11 7US and not Grosvenor Square.

The NVC sent this https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/LND-London.pdf  and said to go over it while waiting to hear from the embassy.  Page 3 about halfway down says "Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant (such as photographs, letters or emails)"

Also the embassy just sent us packet 3. We haven't gotten an packet 4 yet which I believe is where we get the interview letter or instructions on how to schedule it. I know we talked about self scheduling but I was told by some special group at the NVC that they will schedule it for us when packet 4 is sent.

Are you a standard IR1 filer?

There is no "packet 4" issued by London for anybody, which was an interview assignment. That stopped several years ago. NVC will pick an interview date for you and send it by letter. If you were K1 or a DCF spouse who lived in the UK you would schedule your own.

NVC SENT "Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant (such as photographs, letters or emails)" My comments to you are London specific based on reading hundreds of London interview experiences. They will not be interested in your trips, photos, or phone calls. NVC's list is worldwide. London's list is specifically what they want at a London interview. Each embassy has their own local way of doing things. Some are tough, while others are easy. You asked. I answered London specific, but you don't have to believe me. You are free to send anything you choose. Dropping out now because I have nothing further to offer.

Standard filer but expedited through the NVC. Last I heard was the embassy sent us a packet 3 with some kind of instructions.

I agree that I've never heard of the embassy asking for documentation but that was a London specific document. I do believe you and I appreciate your help. Just conflicting information on the same embassy site.
