Medicals appear to be valid for a year based on the information given to me. Because there is a chance that the interview and filing date might be more than a year apart, my lawyer recommending not sending it as part of the application (yes, you get a yellow form saying that you haven't submitted it!) but rather doing it when I got the interview letter. I think you should be good with a December 2017 date as long as it is sealed etc.

Thanks you.

Hoping this week or so might be some EAD news. Sitting at 111 days right now.

I would definitely recommend calling tier 2/making an infopass about that as you should only have one A number.  Errors like that can cause problems down the line so straighten it out ASAP.

My A number when I was under F1 OPT was different. They assigned me a new one after I sent in my i-485, even though in all the application forms I wrote down the F1 OPT A number. Now that I've received my green card, my A number is officially the new one.

Hey folks,

Just checking in after having our interview at New Orleans on Tuesday. Overall a very positive experience. Our appt was 1pm and we were called in right at 1. We had some small chat with our officer as she remembered me as she was the officer that interviewed me for my N400. She checked our ID but didnt ask us to raise our right hand etc, which I remember I had to do back when I was going through everything.

 We then quickly ran through the I-485 and I-130.

The officer then asked us to describe how we met and we told our story about meeting through our work. She then asked if we had any additional paperwork in addition to the evidence that we sent with our application packet. We didnt have too much extra. She then told us all looked great and that we should expect the GC in the mail in 10-14 days.

We were back outside in less than 10 mins after we went in. Overall a very smooth and efficient process. It may be worth noting that our situation is slightly different as we have already been married for 2.5 years and have 2 children together, so we are not the typical couple trying to prove our relationship is not fraudulent.

We checked our case status online, however it has not been working since the beginning so I expect we will not know for sure until the card arrives in the mail.

Good luck to all those still waiting! I feel your pain! When I did my AOS 10 years ago i had a super long wait in Dallas.

Hey guys. Question: How do we replace the social security card after getting the green card? When I was under F1, my social security card says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" so I'm guessing this needs to be removed. The number would stay the same, though, right?

I think you have to go to your local SSN office and get it replaced. Call before hand to see what documents to bring.

I am adjusting from OPT to AOS. My OPT EAD will expire in a month. My wife and I have only one source of income(only my income). Any idea, if this is a solid case for expediting? Any suggestions are welcomed to reach out a tier 2 officer(dialing USCIS line seems ineffective so far) Our lawyer says just chill and wait.:(

You just go into the SSA office with your Green Card and they will order you a new one without the Valid with Auth text. The number stays the same.

Hello,

Im the type of person that will say try to expedite you have nothing to lose, especially since you are the breadwinner. I doubt the lawyer would pay for your bills if the inevitable (I pray it doesnt) happens. <_<

I am not sure what field your work in and the relationship you have with HR but to make your case solid would be to have a letter from your employer stating it will be a loss for them to lose you because they will have to hire somebody else and train them to do your job or because you are the only one in your department, if it is your case. And I would also include a letter from you stating you are the breadwinner of the house and explain the financial burden it will be for your family with proof like your bank account statements showing just one direct deposit/check coming in.

Below are some of the criteria to expedite (taken from https://www.uscis.gov/forms/expedite-criteria ) and I believe you qualify for the 1st one

USCIS may expedite a petition or application if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Severe financial loss to company or person;
  • Emergency situation;
  • Humanitarian reasons;

To expedite you need to call their 1-800 number and talk to somebody about it.

I would also suggest getting the congressman/senator of your area involved to get the status of your EAD application on your behalf.

Good luck, I pray you get it very soon or your expedite requests gets approved.

Lastly from my readings, expedite requests take between 3 weeks to 1 month. Search on VJ there are plenty of posts about it

Nouchigang, thank you very much for the info. Since posted the question, I looked around similar posts at VJ. So, yes I am thinking the same way, requesting expedite based on financial loss. I am in IT field, and it will take few months for my company to replace me, and another few for training the new person. I will def check with my HR on getting a letter explaining this, great idea!

Also thanks for your prayers! I will keep the forum updated on my process, hopefully with good news:D
