They really have such limited information on the beneficiary. Name and birthdate. The passport isn’t even required. I cant imagine doing anything extensive with the information in the I-129f.

True, not sure what they must be doing with such little info

Don't forget to take a note of the number the form will give you at the start.

that way if you save but don't submit it, you can retrieve it :)

I'll do that thank you!

Can anyone help im confused!!

So Savannah phoned NVC today. They have received our application and have assigned us our new case numbers.

I entered these numbers into the CEAC website and got this message..

'Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol(Spanish). You will find contact information for NVC at http://nvc.state.gov/ask. '

I also entered these numbers into another part of the CEAC website and got this message..

'K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case.'

SO NOW WHAT!?

Do I have to wait until my case has made it to the US consulate before I can fill out these online forms or can I start them now? The first message takes me to a site which is a 6 step process to 'begin NVC processing' and the second message takes me to a link which wants me to start a DS-160 form. Which one do I fill out or do I fill out both... Now or when my case gets to consulate??? I'm sorry this has totally thrown me.

Basically can I start both these online forms now? I mean its talking about arranging interviews but my case hasn't even left NVC yet

You can fill out the DS-160 completely, and you can book your medical.  It wont let you book the interview at embassy until the DS-160 shows as "Ready", but you can do the rest.

So after seeing this... and checking their timeline... I called NVC.... and surprise surprise we were told that our case was received and they gave us our case number... NVC did not tell us when our case was received tho but i'm assuming it was today since I had called this morning and they said they had nothing. They told us that our case has not being fully open as yet so we should give them a couple days to do so..... I'm so ecstatic right now .. NOA2 -Jan 17 (paper copy) Jan 18 (USCIS case tracker)

Thanks Matt&Savannah.... :):)

P.s When we log into the CEAC site that is also the message that comes up..

Question: Is this true for every embassy that you can fill your DS160 before getting formal notice to do so by the Consulate?

Our case is in transit! Ah! Quick question, is it standard for it to say that a interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center? I thought that in Manila, you could schedule your own interview. Clarification, please. :)

Yes but don't submit it till it at least says "ready"

ds-160 I already filled cause everyone was saying it was huge... it finished in 10 minutes...but here's no meaning in doing it so I just wanted to see what it was because I get questions and my last one was back in 2011..

@KBA

you need to have a passport to apply apply for a visa.

not for a petition but for the visa, it's a must. As they can't process it without that.

Edit: I misunderstood

wait was this the petition?

in petition no, unless the person is in US at he time of the petition filing.

Haha yes I was just asking about the background checks for both during the initial process ;)

So what I know about background checks:

there is one one that happens at FBI (this does not happen at csc but it should be finished before adjudication) does, and the one that before initial review happens at the csc, which is other databases. The most important one is the petitioner here. And if the beneficiary lived in us before they would also have that info. But petitioner is the main.

For the beneficiary they hit the name + birthday combination in databases. If someone has a similar name or for example same last name born in same area a town or city, this may cause a hit, thinking that may be a relative.

That's also why some names take longer, cause it gets hits and causes the check to go deeper.

this is also done in a similar manner for other visas. That's why some people for example would get a hit in the database when entering US and if at the visa level they confirm you are not the same person they put a stamp or a similar writing in he visa explaining "not the same person"(can't remember the actual wording) but this is also common.
