Could be different by state, but I think in Ohio you just need your international ID and maybe take a driving test to be issued an Ohio licence. If they need proof of legal status in the states I believe there's a form for that....maybe I-94?  I'll have to double-check the name of the form but I think you can get your SSN in a couple weeks time.

You can get SSN, but it as a woman, my name will change.

Yes, mine too. We'll have to go back to the SSN office with a copy of our marriage certificate I think.

I thought AoS has always been a somewhat lengthy process. Most of the advice I seem to recall reading about it goes along the lines of  "be prepared to wait, they'll get to you eventually."  This was the case even before this long slow-down we've all experienced this year.

Nothing is easy, fast or simple about this process. *sigh*   Just being married is difficult enough without jumping through all these immigration hoops.

Immigrating is like the Hunger Games or something LOL.  Only the strongest survive!!! :P

Lmaoo.

When I initially looked into the process it AOS was 4 months. But reading the comments there are also delays that side too.

youll see from the comments the difficulties people have had with trying to change their ssn after marriage. Sigh.

Yes, that’s what’s taking 6 months. Look at the AOS August forum.

Blah, I can't let myself start looking at AOS forums until I at least get NOA2.

My fiance is planning to take some community college classes to keep him occupied. Does that mean he's going to have to get an F1 student visa even though he'll already be in the US?

From what I have researched about SSN is once you are here In the U.S. wait two weeks then go apply for SSN. Then wait a couple more weeks to get married. After you get your SSN card go back in and do your SSN name change. If you apply for SSN after you get married then it's a longer process. There is a guide somewhere around this forum about how to do it and I think if you google it you can find some guides.

DANG!!! Yep, according to people in this thread, there is confusion among government workers about how to do things. Not a big shock but I mean, LAWDY LAWDY what a mess!

So maybe it's better to wait until after the wedding to apply for an SSN then, yeah!  I don't think you need an SSN to get married in the US since many people go there for destination weddings, right? Although It might differ by state so we'd all best double-check with our home states first.

What a pain!! Just when I thought things we're starting to look up, heh.

Yes that's what I thought too but read that thread I just linked in my prior post there. There's conflicting info about it.  Some people are reporting having no trouble getting their SSN after the wedding, some say there's no trouble doing it the way you just described.

Well, like Scooby Doo says: Rotsa Ruck, I guess.  We're gonna need it :P

The normal one for £45 will do.

if you have something on your record (no live trace) then you will also need to complete an access to data document.

my report came  in about 8 days.

It’s best to get the ssn 2 weeks after entering apparently, and then changing the name after marriage.

Great, that's the one I will go with, after the length of time we have waited to get (to all most) the NOA2 weI don't want to have to wait any longer than we have too for the next stage.

Got a couple other questions because I will need to send document to my fiancé once I returned.  Two issues I am running into:

-Employer will not write me a letter of employment verification.  What do I do in this instance?  They already said they won't do it unless requested by a third party.  Obviously immigration will not do this on my behalf.  Will my signed offer letter suffice?

-I visited my bank (Chase) to get proof for the I-134.  The document they provided me does not show the total amount deposited in the last year, and they said there is no way for them to show this other than just printing out a list of deposits/withdrawals.  What should I do in this instance?

-I was living abroad and did not start at my job until July.  As a result my 2017 income is 18k.  Will this cause problems?  I will make around 40k a year total, and this is provable.  But will my most recent tax returns showing less cause me an issue?
