I just lined up a Justice of the Peace/independent minister who is a coworker of mine.  Our date is unknown so planning is impossible.  We never discuss this ... but it may be time to get some thoughts together.  We're both adverse to spending money .. already getting crushed by travel expenses. I might suggest we do it in out home and invite family .. maybe 15 people .. make a party of it .. that's my idea. Honeymoon on hold .. we have 4 kids ... to deal with.

And there would be absolutely nothing wrong with that if you did. Ours will likely be much like that. Between the money we've spent during our relationship, on top of what we're currently spending and will spend on this process, ON TOP OF him not being immediately employed upon moving here.... we decided to veto the traditional wedding route and have something very small and private. I have a couple of uncles who are ordained, so one of them will officiate our ceremony and it'll just be outside somewhere that either doesn't cost anything, or is low cost. We have some local botanical gardens you can reserve by the hour (think Miranda and Steven from Sex & the City), or will use someone's backyard. Upside to living in the south/country; most people you know have some pretty backyards. :P

It'll just be immediate family and close friends also. We'll probably have a meal, because between Paul being a chef and me just generally being from the south, we have to have food. :pop: I plan on buying a regular dress and not necessarily a "wedding gown", so hoping that won't be too costly. I'd rather us have the money to use on something more important later, but still have that day be special because it's still a celebration. :)

Håll ut, y'all.

Our original plan was to have a friend wed us, but now I'm scrambling. It's hard to find someone that will do a non-religious ceremony in Texas. :) Your plans sounds nice, though. I'm sure the kids are excited. :)

So I called USCIS following @vocaledge advise and for fed the same regurgitated BS script as usual. I was told I had to wait up to 60 days before I can call back in the most annoying Voice tone I have ever heard as if she was singing along a the script At a fast pace (at least that’s what I could make out of what she was saying). Not normal at all! On top of everything she just kept on calling me Sir... I got a bit frustreated at the end and told her I was not a Sir but a Ma’am.... 😫😫😫😫

We're very happy with the location we now have, but not being local for sure made things more difficult. We're also "sponsoring" 2 family members on my side for their flights.

We'll likely stick to our budget, but can go a little higher if we want to. We don't care about spending so much for one day either. We just want a celebration with the people we love :)

I have just received another email response to one of my inquiries.  This time they say that I am assigned to an adjudicator and is "under review" but cannot estimate when it will be completed.  At least it is something different from the other responses.  I'm not sure if I believe it but I am going to take it as good news.

I believe it. I believe most of the scripted BS replies tell you to wait 30/50/60 days as opposed to an actual update such as it is (or is not) assigned to an adjudicator. Granted that you would likely have a better idea as you have had about 50 replies to enquiries at this point, would you agree?

I know it is difficult to get your hopes up, however, I am of the mind you will get a response this week or next based on that reply.

Yes!  Every single response I have received before this one (including the Congressional inquiry) stated to check back in either 30 to 45 or 30 to 60 days.  This one didn't at all.  Here is the email this time...

According to our records, your petition is assigned to an officer and under review. While we are unable to predict a specific date by which a decision will be rendered in your case, you will receive further correspondence in due course.

If you have any new inquiries, you can always contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) by calling 1-800-375-5283, via TTY at 1-800-767-1833 or submit an E-request via our website.  A customer service representative should be able to assist you when you call the above toll-free number or you may submit an E-request via https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do .

I'm actually thinking of taking him to Vegas with us but my mother in law says "it's no boys night"

so for disney, can I also do a disney honeymoon without a kid?

My mother in law wants her son to go work the next day!! No going anywhere after the wedding. We had Vegas plans but then she wasn't happy about it. Such a wet blanket sometimes,  I have family taking the trip to the States and the wedding will be in Illinois, which really all they will get to see is the corn grow, lol. So she suggested I go alone with my family, uhm we just got married after 3 years of long distance, no lady I don't want to be separated from him on my first day being his wife. Put a sour taste in my mouth for her after that.

We are getting married just outside of Chicago too, well 2 hours out in Princeton, il. They have a barn there with 40acres of gardens and rivers, fountains, a beautiful rustic pergola type thing, it's an hour and a half from Bloomington where my fiancé lives but it's just the perfect elegant rustic venue, we have to have it there!!  It is so much more expensive in Chicago and surrounding areas, my sister in law had her entire wedding at a hotel in NC and came in at only 22k,  I wish we could have ours at that price!
