You're right. I believe he said something closer to Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists except for "some" which he "assumes are good people".

1. Border Security

2. Marriage/Children Based Visas

3. Merit based Visa System and eliminating the visa lottery.

4. Requirements for birth citizenship: 1 US Citizen parent

5.  Dreamers - give the LPR status with no path to citizenship. They shouldnt be blamed for their parents illegal actions nor should they be rewarded.

6. No AOS

A common sense plan for immigration - though sure the open boarder proponents will scream bloody murder.

I'd get behind this, more or less.

I would still like a visa lottery system for people from poorer areas. I think we need to maintain some spirit of our original founding as a country. However it could be scaled down substantially. I could also see a merit-based weighting added to the lottery system (as well as it was scaled to the country of origin...so merits from a 3rd world country weren't directly compared to merits from a 1st world country).

I also would agree with what NB has said on here - If we make drastic changes they all start from Day 1, not proactive. Allow those who are here (with no criminal records) to remain but not have a path to citizenship. I'd cut out the "not in poverty" requirement from NB's plan, just because I don't want to punish people more just because we are poor. I think it is a fair and reasonable compromise if we are moving forward with much stricter policies.

Blah blah blah you guys keep acting like we should have the same open immigration policy like we did 1-2 hundred years ago. We don't have made migrations of people coming here legally like what we did back then. We have small amount of people that are coming here legally that if below a certain age should be able to speak and understand basic English.

Did I say my wife is peffect in English? No, I did not say that at all there is alot of times with me when we get into deep conversations that she will flat out say "I don't know what you call it in English". So we talk about it and she usually finds out what to call the word/phrase she is thinking of in English. But for getting around the town and talking to people she is fine, she has a accent but overall she is fine.

Whoever ''you guys'' are. Never have I said that we should have the same policy like we had in the past. However there is a failure, on the part of some, to understand that immigration is largely cyclical, and the same expressions of discontent over it is the same that was expressed towards our ancestors then. It has never changed. With only a few exceptions, the reasons why immigrants come here are the same reasons why they came before.

This sounds an awful lot like the argument some people make about the 2nd amendment. Why do we have a policy about guns like we did 1-2 hundred years ago? Shouldn't we update it with the times? Shouldn't we consider more modern factors that weren't present back then? The constitution is a "living breathing document" blah blah blah.

Why are you okay with updating/changing certain aspects of our constitution, but not others? They are both covered by amendments aren't they? Is it the amendment number that matters? >10 are set in stone but the rest of fluid?

What arbitrary designation do you use?

Ah the little ironies you find in life.

If you’ve been keeping up with the news lately, you couldn’t be blamed for thinking the world is in the throes of an immigration Armageddon. Europe is being inundated by hundreds of thousands of refugees. Donald Trump is calling to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. And all the while, walls are going up right and left. In fact, three-quarters of all border walls and fences were erected after the year 2000. Here we are, 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and from Uzbekistan to Thailand, from Israel to Botswana, the world has more barriers than ever.

Why, you ask? The usual reasons have been given: Migrants and refugees will steal our jobs. Or, instead, they’re too lazy to work. Crime rates are higher among immigrants. Or, even worse, they’re all terrorists in disguise.

There’s just one problem with all of the standard arguments against migration: They’re wrong.

In fact, plenty of research shows that there is no better way to make the world wealthier—a lot wealthier—than migration. Four different studies have shown that, depending on the level of movement in the global labor market, the estimated growth in “gross worldwide product” would be in the range of 67% to 147%. Effectively, open borders would make the whole world twice as rich.

This has led New York University researcher Michael Clemens to conclude that we’re currently leaving “trillion-dollar bills on the sidewalk.” If all the developed countries would let in just 3% more immigrants, the world’s poor would have $305 billion more to spend, according to a 2007 study by the World Bank. That’s the combined total of all development aid—times three.

The problem, in short, isn’t too much migration, but too little. In our era of “globalization,” goods, services, and stocks crisscross the globe, but figures from the United Nations Populations Fund show that only 3% of the world’s population lives outside their country of birth. By making people stay put, national borders form by far the greatest impediment to economic growth.

Growth isn’t a cure-all, of course, but in most countries, it’s still the main driver of progress. Opening up our borders, even just a little, is the most powerful weapon we have in the global fight against poverty.

But sadly, it’s an idea that keeps getting beaten back by the same old myths.

myths debunked in link.

What myths debunk?

The researcher only makes predictions what will happen if this or that is done.

Just like the stock market, the economist predicts why the stocks will go up. blah blah....

But when the market going to the opposite direction, the economist will also come up with another theory to counter previous wrong prediction..

It is all talk, no certainty that it will work as exactly as the researcher said.

The ever only certainty in the world or life, is death.

Also googled about the author Rutger Bregman (hopefully it is the same person).

Money for nothing: the case for a basic income

https://www.ft.com/content/81fdf4c4-fdc2-11e6-8d8e-a5e3738f9ae4

Quote

Into this void steps Rutger Bregman, a 28-year-old Dutch writer and thinker whose four books and writing in the media have received considerable attention in his own country. His ambition in Utopia for Realists is large; he wants to rescue us from our current economic, social and political malaise. The language he uses to describe his mission is similarly soaring; he seeks nothing less than to guide us toward “a new lodestar, a new map of the world that once again includes a distant, uncharted continent — ‘Utopia’ ”.

The tricky thing about utopia is that it’s an inherently subjective concept: one woman’s utopia is as likely to be another’s dystopia. Bregman’s prescriptions will please those of a liberal, cosmopolitan and mostly progressive bent. His ideal world would include more open borders, a 15-hour work week, less inequality, and fewer “bull**** jobs” (by which he seems to mean primarily those in the financial sector). His most important (or at any rate overarching) idea appears to be a call for a universal basic income — “free money”, as he puts it, that would be distributed to every citizen, without means testing and without attached conditions (for example, the requirement to work or look for work).

I can be on board with 15-hour work week and free money if Open Borders really works.

My comment about poor trashy 3rd world people? ha ha ha...

I borrowed them from the Left, words they used to trash their own poor red state people.

That's how they trash their very own poor red state people. The Left are pretty ok with it.

See this video here about LA downtown Skid Row? Have been circulating in some facebook pages for a while.

https://youtu.be/U1kqyAnPOpg

Even Africa Rwanda (the country with genocide many years ago) looks much much better than this.

Some US cities like Dallas, Albuquerque,  their shops need to have metal bars to prevent looting, theft, burglaries

Aging Amtrak trains that keep derailing, killing people?

First world country USA?

You are all over the place and I really don't get the context and point of your comments.
I am sure the red states themselves admit to poor people and bad areas, that is just a fact, left or right, poor people are in both, red and blue states.
Every country has it's bad areas and poor people so what else is new ?
Besides the US having poor people it is still a great country, if you don't like it then why not move somewhere that better fits your needs and expectations ?
I suppose you have not been to Rwanda to understand the bad areas there. I could find a youtube about it too but fail to see the point of country bashing
because all countries have their good and bad things in which the human race lives.
Infrastructure is crumbling yes, Trump's campaign  promise was to change that. I have not seen him doing anything about it.
All that you mentioned is not a single reason to have a merit system. The poor, the "trashy", the infrastructure, Amtrak, the left's borrowed lingo,
I fail to understand what that has to do with the price of tea in China.
