I never knew snitching was a moral pillar.

Is it snitching to inform on someone that did something illegally?

Your huaband has to do that NOT you. I am furloughed as well and I am the sole provider for my family.  I hate how the Dems are putting Illegals above actual citizens.

I am all for helping the people that have actually gone through the DACA process to get approved for it. But to actually hold up the budget for that one thing is stupid in my book.

How come republicans are so void of empathy? Last time we had a shut down the republicans refused universal healthcare and now we want to throw out people who have lived here all their life.

If you're all for helping the people who are in DACA then what is the problem? Trump is not interested to bring this up himself so let's just deal with it now and have it done with. Together with CHIP and proper budget for the military.

I understand DACA very well, thank you.  Often argue FOR the recipients of DACA to those not in the know, actually.  But here in an immigration forum, I would expect not to have to explain the finer details.

Unfortunately, all of your “I AM OKs” don’t change the laws in place today.

And no matter how much you argue that the kids came here with no will of their own, many, MANY of them are over 18 now, and could have left and tried to immigrate the legal way.  Reckon how many have?  They KNOW they are illegal, but they are hoping to get away with what their parents did.

I can agree with some of that.  However, I'm sorry but just because the laws are in place today doesn't change the fact the laws should be changed.  As for "they're over 18 now"  well would you expect your 18 year old to leave the country they grew up and and then try to get back in?  Of course they aren't going to want to leave!  What if they don't even speak the language of the country they originally came from? What if they didn't know until they were over 18 that they weren't raised here or didn't have legal status? DACA is there for the what ifs.

Granted I'm Canadian.  So I'm probably more forgiving.  I do have my limits of course.

I agree, at this time a DACA recipient is only getting an EAD, but I believe the folks on the Left in our federal government want this to be expanded as a path to citizenship.  Btw, I am not aware of a DACA recipient being required to inform on the adult that brought them here illegally.

If we are not forcing spouses to incriminate each other, why should we force children to do that with their parents?

I was furloughed last go around and got back pay for the days i didn't even work. Pretty much a free vacation. Don't hate the player.....

He was back payed last time too....  Just because my husband's job is considered essential and yours isn't so that means he has to go to work and you get to sit on your butt getting free pay?  If that makes you happy to be lazy, well enjoy your stereotype. :D  I'm sure you are.

FYI they're not REQUIRED to back pay you.  They can, but they are not required to.

I have empathy I do. But I don't have empathy to Illegals that have been here and taken no steps to become legal. For example in the paper today in Greensboro NC there is an illegal taking cover in a church so he won't be deported. He feels that this is his country and he shouldn't have to leave. Even though he came here in his 20s back in 2005.

I said I am all for helping approved DACA recipients but to hold up the budget and make the government shutdown because of it is stupid just plain stupid.

I remember in my last job where I was witnessing a conversation between a Canadian here on a work visa, a rancher, and a guy who immigrated legally from El Salvador. It was funny that the rancher and the Hispanic were on the same page in regard to immigration and the Canadian wanted to allow the US to open up more and allow everyone in. Also he wanted us to be bilingual like Canada as well .

Not normal to provide proof of legal status to buy Insurance, or most other things.

Not if you consider that they ask for social security number on almost every piece of paper.

Because currently, they are illegals that should be deported, according to US immigration law.  Does it suck for the folks who came here hears ago because their parents broke the law?  Sure it does.  But let’s quit calling them kids. They are adults.  Many with degrees and jobs.  And while that is a good thing in their favor, the fact is that they are here ILLEGALLY.  Had they gone back to their home country, and applied for legal immigration when they were 18, or so, they might be on a path to LPR by now.  Who knows?  I certainly don’t.  And while I feel for their plight (the emotional side of me), I realize they are illegal by current US law.  If you want to talk about amnesty, how well did that work out for us in the 80s?  How has the situation changed between then and now?  What will happen if we just grant amnesty to DACAs today?  Surely you can see how it will not end well for the US?

If your husband is truly not getting paid, then why is he going to work?  Most likely, he WILL get paid.  Heck, last shutdown, people who were told to stay at home got back pay for doing so.  It ended pretty well for them.  It usually does for government workers.

His job is essential.  He has to go to work.  Last time in 2013 he was furloughed for a few days until congress decided they liked being able to fly.   When you work the FAA, it's different.

Yeah he's the main provider for our family.  I could not work and we would be fine, exactly as we are, but without his pay, we need to make major adjustments depending on the length of the shut down.

Well if they do get rid of DACA, then they do, but I think it should be a gradual thing where people with existing work permits are allowed to stay until it's up.

It's not like the USA is the only country that deal with illegal aliens.  But this it the only one that will shut down a government due to it, which is stupid IMHO.

Never said I think the US should open immigration more.  If anything I think a great deal of avenues should be closed.  No to AOS unless in extreme circumstances.  No to joint sponsors.  No to siblings.

Most of the US is bilingual already.  I rarely buy a package of something without spanish written on it.  I do believe you should speak the language of the country you move to.  I expect people who move to Canada to speak english or french, I would expect people to learn english when moving to the USA.  I've had to change how I say things even to be understood.  LOL

Didn't say it was your choice, but you seem to be proud of the fact that you were paid to stay home while my husband had to go to work. :D  I'll say it to your face.  I'll hold my loaded AR15 while I do it too. :D

His job is essential so he had to work.  Yours was not.  You were both paid in the end.  Really what does it matter? It doesn't.  A shut down doesn't guarantee you pay.

BTW we also have a doberman.  Since I just noticed your avatar.

They can ask.  You do NOT have to provide.  About the only time I ever give my SSN is for a credit check.  Even then, it can be done without it.  It was asked for on the paperwork for my recent dentist visit.  I did not provide it.  They did not come back and ask for it.

Back to the topic at hand, and who is responsible for the shutdown...

Pesky Checks and Balances.

I'm very sure you would've seen similar results to most of the bills The Turtle Filibustered under eight years of Obama. The Turtle did it in unprecedented and record numbers.

The thing is The Turtle has the power to change the rules of the Senate and pass budget bills by simple majority but he refuses to break the 60 vote threshold. Probably the best decision he's made in years.
