Because alot of us do actual work and do it to the best of our abilities. But usually the Directors are the only ones that are "Mission Essential". My last job with the USGS we were only considered "Mission Essential" was if there was a big earthquake.

So what is your solution?  I am fine with taking care of the DACA folks, but I believe we need to close the border first otherwise we just keep getting into a DACA cycle.  I imagine you also saw the news, being that it was local to the Detroit area, of the guy that was deported even though he was married to a USC and had children with her.  He did not qualify for DACA (why did Obama put such narrow parameters on the program), and when he tried to adjust via his wife he triggered a 10 year bar.  This all started in 2005, and if he had gone back to Mexico at that time, he could probably be back by now, but instead according to the wife, this is all Trump’s fault.  Deportation proceeding began way before Trump even thought of running.
