My interview is tomorrow morning and I'm terrified that everything is going to fall apart right at the end, here! Does anyone know how the possible shutdown might affect things?

When I googled the question this was the answer it came up with "The good news is that USCIS and U.S. consular offices will continue to operate. Therefore, non-immigrant and immigrant petitions will continue to be processed by USCIS—although processing time may be increased and consular interviews will continue until reserve funds are exhausted."

No because government workers still have to work, they are just not getting paid if the govt shuts down.  Sure they get back pay.... eventually.

Wanna know how stupid that is? Try paying your bills when you have to work everyday but are not being paid.  If you are not military the mortgage company and utilities companies do not care.  Welcome to my life.

not all govt workers goto work on a shut down, i work for the Dept of treasury and I will get to stay home!!  And when I worked in the Embassy in Nicaragua, pretty sure some were furloughed as well.  If you do a google search u cna get a pretty good idea on who gets to work and who stays home.  http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-government-shutdown-20180117-htmlstory.html

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

True. Hubs works for the FAA so he works because the planes keep flying.

I keep at hubs trying to get more savings.  Thankfully have a fulltime job again (despite promises from the last place I worked) so while anything fun would stop, I think we'd do okay for a few months.

But this is offtopic a bit.

With my interview coming up in a few weeks I am curious about this issue too. The information I have found so far is the high fees we've paid with immigration is supposed to fund most of the operations without government aid. The different sites says unless the shutdown goes on a long time there might be just a slight slowdown in processing applications. Here is to hoping the shutdown does not happen for everyone effected including al those workers.

I had my interview yesterday. It went great! Everything is good and I'm approved.

I asked my interview agent about the shutdown at the end when she asked if I had any questions. She said that since UCIS is fee-funded, the shutdown should probably not cause any major delays in processing my paperwork and the consulate would most likely continue to operate. Hoping to have my passport back soon so I can travel :)
