No SSN, married name change, AOS

Hello everyone! I plan to submit my AOS application through marriage to my USC husband by the end of this month, but I'm having a bit of a problem.

 

I came to the US on an H4 visa but it expired years ago and now I'm out of status.I never had a SSN. I recently got married and I am taking his name. However, I have no legal documents with my new name. I can't go to the SSN office and change my name since I don't have a social in the first place.

 

What name do I use on the AOS application? Can i use my married name but supporting documents like my passport has my maiden name? Our marriage cert does not show my married name as it only asked for a maiden name.

 

Also, my husband want to add me to his benefits at work. Can I use my married name for that?

Yes, you can use your married name in the AOS application. Not sure for his benefits at work, they might require copy of Driver License in married name.

09/20/2018 Received text 'Interview was scheduled' and interview notice will be mailed

09/27/2018 Received Interview notice by mail

10/25/2018 Interview day

10/26/2018 I-485 case status updated to "We ordered your new card"

10/29/2018 Case Status updated to "We approved your Form I-485"

10/31/2018 Case Status updated to "We mailed your new card"

11/01/2018 My card was picked up by the USPS with tracking number assigned

11/05/2018 Green Card Received 

 

Side note: I turned my maiden name into second middle name. In the combo card, my given name is First Firstmiddleinitial, however on the back of the card, they attempted to list my second middle name.

Yes use your married name in the AOS if that is the name you want to use going forward, much more of a pain to fix later. 

 

Benefits - I used my passport in my maiden name and my marriage certificate, the issue will be SSN as most insurance insist they need it as it is a unique identifier. However you can try and argue that you can use your passport number but others have found this difficult. Most HR are not used to dealing with those in the midst of immigration.

Thank you! I will be using my married name in my forms. 

 

Another question. Can I use my maiden name as my new middle name, and then totally get rid of my old middle name? I live in Texas if that helps.
