hey guys. so i entered the US in Oct 2017 on K1 visa. I married my fiance in Oct and filled for AOS, advance parole and employment. However, tax time is coming. Are we to file jointly here in the US, and am I to file in Canada (my home country as well), as I still have a bank account and such there? Any info is greatly appreciated!

If you have any Canadian-source income you may still have to file in Canada (for some types of income, the NR withholding suffices).

Just a heads up you can't file your Canadian taxes online. Once you hit the submit button you will find that out.

I also am updating my sin card name prior to filing taxes so that I can file with my married name. I am not sure if it'

 Required but it should match.

If you are filing joint you your husband needs to be on your Canadian taxes aswell I believe there is away to put him on there without having a sin# I would check with cra.

For that reason and other reasons I am filing seperate but as married. It's just cleaner in my perspective but you won't get the benefits of being married if you do it this way. And yes you will still need to file USA taxes because taxes need to be filed upon where you live on the last day of the year. FIle both Canadian and usa EVEN IF there are no earnings on the usa end but make sure to let USA know you filed Canadian income aswell.
