Okay so here's the situation.

I am Australian, and my fiancé is American.

We are about to start the K1 application process.

I currently live in Australia but have a current work visa for Canada.

As the current K1 processing times have slowed right down its crossing my mind to move back to Canada while we wait so we can be closer and see each other more often. (That flight from Aus to the USA is not an easy or affordable weekend trip)

If we file now and I have Australia as my home country how difficult is it to change later on if say I am then residing in Canada?

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated!

I would think that you are interviewing with the US CO.  I don't think it matters but this process as long enough that you should be able to change your address once you move to Canada.  I dont think the US cares where you interview from since they are all CO with the same training.  I hope someone with more experience chimes in.

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.

For the beneficiary, you don't update home country midway. As the forms are correct for that moment.

however 1) yes you can have your interview there, but unless you show residency in the petition (meaning moving to Canada before the petition and showing that as the place) they usually send the files to Australia (home country) but there's a place in the petition where you can chose your embassy. So you can write Canada montreal there, and they will most likely use that one (although they don't always do care about our wishes)

2) even if they send it to Australia you can move it to Canada, it takes a little bit longer I believe around a month in full from asking for transfer till transfer completes. But there are people who did this.

either way it is doable.

Good luck

I heard from my doctor at the medical, so don't quote me, but you can apparently apply for a K1 through the US consulate in Sydney and apparently it is quicker than applying on your own/through a lawyer.

I'm quoting in order to let the OP know what I'm talking about :)

I don't know if Sydney has it or not, but yes DCF (Direct Consular Filing) is as it is basically filing directly to the consular, it has its own different challenges and rules but takes shorter than applying a K1/CR1. If you will check, there's a topic somewhere in the forum.
