Please help! I am filling out the documents to apply for the K1 visa right now, and I'm coming across all the times I have to verify my current/previous employment over the past 5 years. Here's my situation, I have had regular jobs with companies before, although a majority of my work has been freelance/contract work as a filmmaker/photographer. I don't have an official business entity, I just work for myself and file my taxes under my name. Should I be listing the names of companies I've freelanced for, or should that only be for companies I've signed W-2's with? Most of my work hasn't involved tax documents as I'm usually paid in cash and then file my own taxes. ANy suggestions? Thanks!

My situation is very similar. I am self employed but do odd jobs here and there. I assume you are referring to what documents you need for the Affidavit of Support? If so, I just sent along that last three years tax transcripts (which you can get for free off of the IRS' site) as well as a letter from my bank stating when my account was opened and how much money was deposited within the last year.

They want to see that you make 100% above the poverty line at the visa stage and 125% above at the AOS stage. I had no problems at the visa stage...we're now at AOS and fingers are crossed.

Thanks! I’m just now learning about this process, so this helps a lot. The AOS stage begins after we’re already married correct?

You are correct, you begin the AOS after your fiance(e) enters the country and you get married.

Check out all of the guides that VJ has and feel free to ask questions. My fiancee, now wife, and I have done everything on our own thanks to VJ. It can be done! Good luck!!
