Hey everyone I attended my Interview last Wednesday (January 10) and was approved! Yay!  Unfortunately when I scheduled I asked if my 10 year old son needed to be at the interview, and was told that I just needed to bring his documents for his K2 visa.  At the interview I was told that he needed to be there to be approved, so he needs to still make that trip to Montreal (I asked if we could take him to Calgary, or possibly a video chat, but they still want him in Montreal).  SO! Moral of the story! Do NOT take advice from the help line!  Papers say the interview is for both people, both people need to attend.

Online it says that my visa is still administratively processing, its been a week!  How long before you saw the tracking number? Did they call or notify you the visa is on the way?  Im getting impatient!  I am more then ready after all this to get to my fiance and start our life.  At least the next leg of the journey we can be together and don't need to mail documents back and forth.

I got my tracking number the day after my interview in the email from montreal but I agree that you probably won't get one until your son has the interview.

well they told me mine is on its way.  Even though he still needs to appear.  And they gave me instructions on how i could go ahead even before he is approved.

I would call and ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain the situation, and then schedule an interview for you and your son.

Well then I have no idea. I had my visa in hand the following Monday after my interview. Good luck with yours.

If your son is in the petition with you he needs to show up at the interview or it won’t be issued. He can travel to the states after you arrive there but you still need to take him to the visa interview before your visas are issued. You’re gonna be on AP until you do.

Who told you not to take your son for the interview? That’s really bad advice. Everyone receiving a visa needs to be present at the interview. It says so in the embassy instructions.

Was when I called in to schedule the interview.  The interviewer was actually quite concerned that I would get this advice, and will be following up with that department to make sure others don't end up with this same problem.  its absolutely frustrating.

Any chance you know which number to call to speak with the Supervisor?

Not to be rude, but there's guides all over the website.

Exactly. And even if they hadn’t found this website before the interview, it lists on the embassy checklist, the email they send you, etc. Theere is no way to miss it.

Thank you!  But im taking longer then most of the guides say I should and have an abnormal circumstance, which is why Im asking on here.  As well I have gone looking for a number that I can use to get through to more then just a general info line, but those also don't seem to exist.

Honestly this is not something you’re gonna be able to get done with a supervisor on the phone. You need to schedule another interview. Call the embassy and explain your situation, however hard to believe it is, and ask them if they can schedule an emergency interview. You’re gonna have to do it one way or the other. Don’t wait too long or they might think you’ve abandoned it.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this. We applied for IR1/IR2 and I seem to recall reading somewhere that children don't have to attend the interview. I was planning on my son attending with me but the thought entered my mind to leave him at home. I realize rules are rules. But this rule makes no sense. It's weird in our case the petitioner (USC) doesn't have to show up but a 5 year old does?

Montreal is difficult to deal with and I am still waiting to book an interview a month after cc. I can't imagine trying to deal with them in an emergency. They don't have enough resources or personnel to deal with the demand.

The other option is to approach a US senator/congressperson who can send an enquiry. The other option would be to contact the US embassy in Ottawa. The person who answered the phone was able to give me a contact number when I had a social security number problem. I am sure you tried the general email address but that can take days.
