Work Without Authorization Admit or No?

Sooo.... I am very confused in weather i should say that i have worked illegally in USA. I am applying for Adjustment of Status after marriage and I-485 is asking if i have worked illegally in USA. I entered the USA as a Visitor's visa on January 2016 and i am applying a year later. I did not have a SSN and i am scared that if i say something they will ask me how did i pay tax... I am also scared that if i say something i am exposing my employer which i am very thankful to and i dont want him to get in trouble. I dont know what to do... What do i write?

Yup, tell the truth. Nobody here can advise you differently as that would be in violation of the TOS here.

Not telling the truth is illegal and

TOS of VJ  prohibit "Condone or instruct, either directly or indirectly, others on how to commit fraudulent or illegal immigration activities in any way, shape, manner or method."

As a legal researcher, with a focus on immigration law; I have always informed people with the truth even if it hurts: Please, never never, ever lie to a federal officer. Even the smallest of lie can get you in bigger predicament. Always tell the truth. America is a system; and not a country. Don't think if you lied on an application today it may not follow you; even if you passed naturalization and they found out you didn't tell the truth, believe me, you will regret it.

 

Howbeit, immigration laws do have many ways of punishing someone for illegal work, but in the case of someone who worked with no valid Social Security Number, entered the U.S. legally, and is married to a U.S. citizen, it’s unlikely (remember I said unlikely) to affect your green card case if you told the truth – and there are more questions than answer. Trust me, this is a tricky area of immigration law, and a small difference in one’s personal situation can make a significant difference in the legal outcome.

 

 Advice, before completing your I-485, speak to an experienced immigration lawyer; they may tell you about legal relief regarding this matter. Immigration

 law is more complexed than you think.

Seems pretty clear that unauthorized work is not a bar in the case of being married to a USC...

That's not the premise of the question. The question is whether to say "yes" I have worked without an authorized permit, or no I haven't worked... which he asserted that had worked illegally.

Absolutely...telling the truth is required either way (and is the only legal option and therefore the only one available on VJ). I was just responding to the rest of what was stated by showing that it was seems pretty clear what the policies and laws are surrounded unauthorized work for adjudicating AOS.

A recent friend who worked illegally during her AOS pending period admitted it and still received her green card. They did not refer the issue to the IRS. That said, the IRS could still possibly discover that you and your employer didn't pay taxes and come collect for them. But that's an issue separate from your immigration case.
