So here is a survey.  How long does it take for a car dealership to mount a new tire on my car?  Had a pothole incident last Friday and lost the left front.  Had the spare, if that is what you call it now, on in about five minutes on the side of the road.  Since this is a company car, I am required to go to a dealership for any repairs, so I went there Friday, no tire, but they could order it and it would be ready Monday.  Called me at 2:15pm, new tire is mounted on the wheel, just bring up the car and we can put it on.  45 minutes and counting.

I should put a shout out to the Oakland County deputy that pulled behind me with his lights on to help block traffic.

Fifteen minutes for the tire. One to two hours to think about it. More if lunch break falls in that time frame. Hopefully you are at the 15 minute window now.

If one guy doing it? Should be about an hour or so. If multiple guys, might be 20 minutes. Its not like it's a piece of Ikea furnishing...  :PIf it's my local shop we keep taking our hunk of junk to... it could be all day. Seriously though, my dad just got 4 brand new tires put on. I don't recall him being gone for any longer an hour. Now not that I know much about cars, but hubby did need new rotors recently (1st in a series of multiple parts dying on the car).. that took them pretty much all day at that local shop... as the hunk of junk is so rusted they had serious problems dealing with the tire.

The wheel was left with the dealership on Friday.  They didn’t even call me until after it was mounted and balanced.  The one hour twelve minutes was to simply replace the spare with the already mounted tire.

I know you didn't have a choice but I would never have mechanical work done at a stealership. Around here independent mechanics get the job done quicker and more reliably. And for half the price. The Chrysler stealership here wanted $200 to scan my car to diagnose an awd issue. I found a mechanic to do it for $25.

I know what you mean.  With my personal car, I would generally go to an independent.  One thing that I don’t mind at a dealership is oil changes.  They are usually pretty reasonable.

Normally I prefer to do my own oil changes (and whatever other work I have the tools to do) but I take my newer car in for oil changes so I have a record if I choose to sell the car later. I'll tell you one thing. It's not fun doing a brake job on a car when it's below zero outside with no garage. Basically you lossen a few bolts then go inside to warm up and repeat the process until the job is done.
