Hello Everyone,

This question is directed at those who have gone through the US Embassy in Ghana.  This embassy has a reputation of being difficult.  Many have quoted that whatsapp chats, pictures, itineraries, emails, phone records etc are not sufficient to be granted the cr1 visa.  With this being said if a couple does not have a joint bank account, what are some other forms of evidence besides affidavits from friends and family that proves a strong marriage legitmate marriage? I appreciate any advice...thank you.

Plenty of face time, that seems to be the common issue, a lack thereof.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Joint land ownership in Ghana, listing your spouse as beneficiary on a life insurance policy, wills, a joint lease if you are spending
an extensive time with your spouse in Ghana. Anything that shows a co mingled life. Joint bank account in Ghana.
Any receipts from trips you may have taken together within Ghana or elsewhere.
Whatever evidence puts you two in the same place at the same time as a genuine couple with a semi mingled life.
As Boiler stated, face time is very important, the more the better, the longer the better.
Even with plenty of face time Ghana has refused many cases so prepare well and check the 'Reaffirmed in Ghana thread.'

I unfortunately wasn’t able to add my hubby to my bank account because he needed a social security number. Same with many of my credit cards. That said my work allowed me to add him to my health insurance. He was listed as the beneficiary of my life insurance and a pension I had. I also added him to my electric bill.

As mentioned above, time spent together is truly the best evidence you can submit. I made 5 trips to Ghana in 2 year and truthfully we didn’t have any red flags. We flew to Tamale for our honeymoon and my husband paid so the tickets were in his name. On my last trip, we put the hotel in his name. It may sound silly but it showed to the CO that I wasn’t paying for  very single thing.

If you look at my timeline I wrote a review of my husband’s interview which included a list of all the evidence we submitted at each phase.

It is hard to say because I went to see my husband 15 times within 3 years and still was denied still waiting for a reaffirm or whatever

Obviously there can be a whole variety of reasons, sometime multiple reasons, but the one we see most common on VJ is limited face time.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
