My fiancé who is in England was adopted by his step father at one year of age. His bio father was never put on his birth certificate. At around 9 years old his parents split and his mother had his named changed back to his first birth name (the one on the birth certificate).

He is having a time locating the correct paper work for this. We want to file in February so we need to get these papers. It is also my understanding that the UK doesn't really have judges sign off on paperwork so when we do track down copies of these papers what are we looking for to prove they are official?

Think we would even have to have these papers? His name is now the same as it shows on his birth certificate and he was just a small child when all of this occurred. I'm scared to get an RFI but tracking down these papers is slowing us way down.

Any tips or suggestions welcome.

I think you will have to show proof of both official documents because on the forms you will be filling out it asks if you have ever gone by other names and you need to show proof. They need to know that he is not married under any name he’s ever had.

My recollection is that you only have to list other names known by.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

If his birth certificate and passport and the name ge goes by are all the same, I think that's all the documentation he needs. Like Boiler said, the forms only ask for other names used which he lists.

The visa interview asks for deed poll of name changes, but I think that is more when you are no longer using the name on your birth certificate....to show how you legally changed your name.  Maybe he just "used" his stepfather's name for a bit ;) so no official stuff to track.

Thanks for the replys so far. Wuozopo I was kinds thinking the same thing. He got a tad bit of help today so he thinks he knows who to contact to get them but he has to apply for it and then we have to wait for it to come to him. Then of course he has to send it to me. Still not sure if its going to be offical enough for the K1 process but Im researching along with asking ;) I just want this process over and done :)
