I haven't seen it not change automatically but no harm double checking.

 l am confused because l asked the Embassy about the new category (F2B) and they responded that l have to file a petition on behalf of my son with the USCIS. They returned his case to NVC.

Maybe be badly worded?, only thing that knocks him out is of he marries.

No. He is single. Never married.
