Sending CR-1 Petition

I am finally very close to sending out my CR-1 packet. I have never seen any posts on how to send it. I tend to be a detail freak so I figured I would ask.

How do I send it? Put it in some sort of report binder? Staple or paper clip the different things in groups? Throw it all in a pouch without any staples or paper clips?

Organized based on your cover letter

NO staples

I just used binder clips to keep it all together

Others have used file folders

Anything you do will simply be taken apart and re-assembled in USCIS file format and anything you have used will get tossed.  Just keep it simple and organized

YMMV

How to send it.    Large paper clip, no need to punch holes or use a binder of any sort.

Priority Mail works.  Whatever you choose, use a service that provides tracking.

Make sure to make a complete copy of everything you sent to USCIS .. just in case.

There is a limit on the size of the clip you can use. I think you are advising on something that does not meet USCIS's requirements. :jest:

General Tips on Assembling Applications for Mailing

•    Mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the nature of the submission. Example: ORIGINAL SUBMISSION - BRIEF FOR AN APPEAL - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITION INFORMATION - etc.
•    Use the appropriate mailing address and mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the form type. Example: 1-129; 1-130; I-690; I-698. etc.
•    Provide both the receipt notice number and the A-Number as an identifier, if they are available.
•    If the packet is being resubmitted in response to A REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE (RFE). please place the notice requesting the additional evidence/information on the top of the packet. Also, please use the special mailing envelope provided.
•    If evidence is being submitted in support of a previously filed appeal or motion. A cover letter stating BRIEF FOR APPEAL", etc., should be placed on top of the packet.
•    In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:
o Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.
o Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
o The use of tabs assist in locating items listed AS attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.
o Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.
o Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

Sounds good. I have a box of binder clips (the smallest size) so I will use those.

I had already planned to make 2 identical packages, one to send off and one for my records.

One more quick question. On one sample cover letter I downloaded once it listed copy of beneficiary's passport. I can't find anywhere that that is something that is needed. I have it in case it is, can someone verify if it is needed or not?

Not needed.

Follow the I-130 instructions.  Provide what is listed there (starts on about page 6 ).   Too much bogus BS out there ..    ;)

Dept of State did have a nice walk through, but I found today that they dropped it from their site ..

Here is what they have now:   https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/petition.html

We just used sticky tabs from office depot (that I cut down to size) that were numbered per the cover letter every step from K-1 through naturalization. Never had a problem. Good luck!
