Lol, yeah I don't get it either. If I was Norwegian I would apply right away for a green card and leave all those  benefits.

Come on people it's not the benefits, education, salaries, or the fjords. It's the whale meat that they can't give up.

Although I was talking to my wife's grandfather over the holidays, who is 1/2 Norwegian, his grandparents came to WI in late 1800s, he mentioned the huge economic struggles they were having by then, they didn't have a self government, living under the control of Sweden, pretty much a ****hole country by then.

That's true, but I had to give up alot, and I'm not sure we will stay here.

I think both countries are beautiful, though I have never visited Norway.   Been in several countries over in the region, and all have something to offer. But they also have negatives.  Like the cost of a driver’s license in Germany... used to cost around $2-2.5K to get one.  And taxes were quite high.  As you say, everything has a trade-off.

I think ALL countries with a Hispanic background can be considered chain immigrants.  Family is very important to them, and they would be more likely to petition family members left behind.  Lots of my wife’s extended family (i.e. cousins) have done just this.  But for some reason, my wife has expressed no desire to do so herself.

Not everyone wants that. Even if I would petition for my family they wouldn't wanna leave the Netherlands. Not in a million years.

if it's obvious, you can say where i said it's excusable or justifiable. you can't. because i said no such thing. i suggest you drop it.  it would be a very huge issue to me if someone said violence was justifiable towards an innocent person.

Of course you’d like for me to drop it, instead of pointing it out.  You may not have used those two words, but you sure made it sound like it was ok because it was black-on-white, and not the other way around.

True, it costed me about 3 K to get my driver's license and had to pay monthly taxes for using the roads. But they have excellent roads, that's where the money goes. Also property taxes are much, much lower. I use to pay €800 for a 250 K house, that would cost me at least 4K here.

Norway seems to be beautiful, I've never been there because I liked to go to warmer places. But I've been told so and my husband wants us to visit whenever we go to Europe.

i'm telling you to drop it because you're misrepresenting what i said, repeatedly. i told you to drop it as a warning.

again, i never said violence against an innocent person was justified or ok. if that's how you perceived it, your perception is wrong. for the last time.

Try Norwegian airlines. They have crazy deals. ~$200-300 round trips between US&Norway. I can't even fly between Boston and west coast that cheap.

Germany is a country that takes its driving very seriously. This is understandable when you realize that a German driver’s license costs over $2000, after a minimum of 25-45 hours of professional instruction plus 12 hours of theory, and such a license used to be good for life. Beginning in 2013, the German license had to conform to the EU term of 10 or 15 years. German licenses issued before 2013 will become invalid by 2033 and must be replaced by the new European (EU) driver’s license.

Your property taxes are likely so high because of FL.  No state income tax.  That is common in just about all states where there is no income tax, except NY

Florida has insane property taxes. I think overall people pay same amount ( it's just called something different) but people from Norway and Netherlands are better protected. And I have to admit, I like that because that's what I grew up with. Knowing that I don't have to worry about essential things like healthcare.

So what comes next?  After your warning, I mean?

Don’t get mad at me if I point out how what you wrote can be perceived.  Like I said earlier, even if you didn’t mean it that way, how someone else perceives what you say matters.

ETA: I believe that you don’t think violence is ok.  Just letting you know how... one-way your post sounded.

You don’t have to worry about healthcare here either.  You just have to use part of your salary to purchase health insurance.  Just as in other countries, you have to use part of your salary to cover doctor and hospital visits.

AK and TX are pretty high on property taxes as well.  But they have no state income tax.  So it all averages out, I suspect.  AL has state income tax, but low property taxes.
