Haitians would probably be the first one to confirm.

probably not.

Quote

I could write a passionate rebuttal extolling all the virtues of Haiti, the island my parents are from, the first free black nation in the Western Hemisphere. I could write about the beauty of the island, the music and vibrant art, the majesty of the mountains, the crystalline blue of the water surrounding her, the resilience of the Haitian people, our incredible work ethic, our faith. I could tell you about my parents, how they came to this country with so many other Haitians, how they embraced the American dream and thrived, how I and so many first-generation Haitian-Americans are products of our parents’ American dreams.

Or I could tell you about the singular, oppressive narrative the media trots out when talking about Haiti, the one about an island mired in poverty and misery, the one about AIDS, the one about a country plagued by natural and man-made disasters, because these are the stories people want to hear, the stories that make Haiti into a pitiable spectacle instead of the proud, complicated country it is. I could tell you how I have spent an inordinate amount of time and energy, throughout my life, educating people about Haiti and disabusing them of the damaging, incorrect notions they have about the country of my parents’ birth.

On the eve of the eighth anniversary of the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake that devastated Haiti, the president, in the Oval Office, is said to have wondered aloud why he should allow immigrants from “*** countries” like Haiti, El Salvador and African nations to enter the United States. Mr. Trump has tweeted a denial that he made this statement. “He said those hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly,” Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, who was in the room, said Friday.

But the president has to know that even if video footage of the comment existed, there wouldn’t be any political consequences for him. He has to know, like we all do, that xenophobic commentary plays well with his base, the people who were more than happy to put him in office because they could seamlessly project their racism and misogyny onto his celebrity persona. It’s no wonder Fox News hosts have defended the comment.

No One Is Coming to Save Us From Trump’s Racism

We don't know what past Presidents and Senators said in private meetings.

Politicians used to have dignity back then and did not disclose conversations held in private meetings.

Presidents also used to understand the dignity of their own office.

is that what America does? Because as far as I know if you want to come to America you have to go through a long intense, expensive process. A lot of locks there.
Or are we gonna have more locks for less desirable (****hole) countries and fewer locks for the desirable countries like Norway?

Last time I checked there were over 10 million here that went thru no process, and that is at the core what immigration reform is about

We knew what Hillary Clinton said about Trump supporters, didn't receive many positive reactions either.
Again it's about how you approach others, is it with dignity and respect or the opposite?

And those people are all from the so-called ****hole countries? Because last time I checked that's what this thread about, whether it suits a POTUS to use certain profanity to describe other countries, yes/no.

Racism was in the closet back in the day? I think you got them mixed up with gays. Racism very overt back in the day.

I assume a lot about a lot of things in life, but I can assume as much as I want,  it doesn't add anything.

You and Ophra really need to let go of the old white people thing. I think if you listen to Dr Kings I have a dream speech he acknowledges the help of white folks in the struggle I was in DC for the 50th anniversary of the speech. Met sevetal of the orginal marchers

i'll ring oprah up and let her know you said ease up.

did i say white people weren't a part of mlk's movement? no, i didn't. we were talking about closeted racism back in the day, as in, those in power (old white men) spoke freely among their peers (wink wink).

your words:

"We don't know what past Presidents and Senators said in private meetings.

didn't realize when you said 'past presidents and senators' and 'politicians' you were referring to jfk and reagan.

further, if we can't know - this works both ways. if i can't know racist things were said behind closed doors - you can't know they weren't.

we do know that racist ideals have been prominent in american history. this is fact. only makes sense that historically many american politicians, especially during more segregated/historically racist eras, held some racist ideals themselves.

i believe your point was, back then they had the dignity not to rat each other out? did i misunderstand you?
