You can get your SS# on the same day, just ask the staff to print it for you, while they send the SS card on the mail after 2 weeks.

No. The SS# is only available after about 24-48 hours, depending on processing. You can go back in then and pick it up (the printout).

Could be different, but that is what I was told, and did.

Maybe you are right and maybe it depends in every states. As for my experience, I took my SS# 1 week after I got married and went just find. BTW, that was less than 2 months after I enter K1 visa, not even a 60 days or the 76 days you mentioned. About the print out SS#, another Filipina is applying on that same day, and that's how I find out that she got her print out SS#.

About the bank, my husband and I open 2 different bank (Wellsfargo in CA. and Redstone in AL.) and they both asked our SS#, just the number without showing my SS card. So, I don't know about the other banks that they are not asking SS#.

I dont know why the bank denied you to join the account, you are not opening a new account...

My husband put me in his account in the first week that i got here, with no SS# and we were not married yet.

They just asked for my passport number. Then, when we got married to change the name i needed to show the marriage certificate, but even like this, they never asked for any other document, because i dont have any "power" over his account...

o my...we dont have a joint bank account yet coz the bank is askin for my ssn which i dont have coz the ss offfice wont give me one unless i provide the EAD and i dont have it yet.......almost all the documents that you guys mentioned all require the ssn for them to include my name on whatever my husband has, like the bank, the insurance, the lease of the house....Right now all we have is the marriage certificate, some photos and some mail addressed to me with our home address on it....Im really on a panic right now..may 7 is almost there :(

I hope everything will be ok...

Hi there! Last week, my husband and I went to add me to his account. We showed our marriage license, my passport with the US visa, and my SS number but they said I need to have some kinda picture ID in the US or from DMV. So, I was not added to his account. With that, we need to wait til I'll have my greencard soon and for sure, things will ok by then!
