Do not have time to go get stats but no way is the UK at the top. Head over to the Guardian and read about the current horrors.

Usually I'm anti the filming hype, but I'm glad this guy did.

Yep

I thought the NHS had major issues.

Then I came to America...

Right. Currently this thread is arguing that the woman was tossed out of the hospital based on O'care? Or is it that she has no insurance? Or it's somehow all Obama's fault?

Can we get to the facts of the case? UMofMM is a very good hospital, and this incident is a great stain upon them. It is not common practice in B'more, but there have been times it has happened, mainly at private hospitals - which this is not (I can tell you it happens at my local town hospital all the time - to the homeless and addicts). We know very little about the facts due to HIPPA regulations, but the patient's mother confirms that the woman has mental health issues and severely autistic and non-verbal. We have no idea how she ended up in the hospital, but from what I've heard, it sounds as if she wandered away from her family or group home. Eyewitnesses in the hospital found her on the floor of the ER, sobbing and being berated by nurses with a major attitude. That is not surprising to me, and I don't even think the decision to kick her out was made by a higher up. It was likely the actions of the guards and nurses there. There has to be someone in the room that knows what happened. I'm glad she is safe now.

BTW, the UK is no bed of roses now with the NHS either. I'm scared for my MiL right now that she's not getting the treatment she needs. Desperately needed hospitals in the north are shutting down, maternity wards are closed, and thousands of operations are being canceled.

This is going to sound harsh, but Hospitals are not homeless shelters. I am sure they get people coming in the ER all the time to just seek attention or get out of the cold. So what should a hospital do with a bunch of people that do not require hospital care, but just are looking for shelter. They cant house them.

Should their be a safety net . Sure call a shelter etc.

NB: Nothing to suggest she was homeless in this case. She appeared to have either had an IV or had a blood test, based on tape on the arm. They didn't seem to bother to get her a psyche eval, or even a hold, if they confirmed no drugs or alcohol present. She had belongings with her, and typically when hospitals find people with no ID and non verbal in B'more they reach out to the press immediately and the family is found within hours. It is not appropriate for standards of care to send someone out half naked into below freezing weather, no matter whom they are. And it is against the law in B'more to do so.

As for shelters I can tell you we've been at code blue for months. Even when that isn't in place - there's simply no shelters left. In my town there are none at all remaining. Even churches that once stepped up to house them this year, have refused to do so. Homeless are dying on our town streets every day. She did not need a shelter, she need a mental health facility. There are many good options nearby.

Obama fixed the US Healthcare System

It is his legacy.
