The point of all this is the following : big corporations like Walmart and ATT are putting this PR out there that due to the tax "reform" they are now giving bonuses
and increasing wages while quietly laying off thousands. That kind of defeats the purpose and evens the whole thing out doesn't it ?
Where are the thousands of jobs Trump has been talking about that will result from this tax cut which is nothing but corporate welfare.
Just more games being played .....bonuses my behind, jobs are being lost. The only bonus is for the oligarchy and a bunch of CEO's, they are the only
winners. The working class is being deceived with a few dollars of a bonus to make it look like a trickle down for those who do not look deeper.

Meanwhile…in the real world…wages are going up and employment is going down. I know that kind of sucks for people who want to desperately believe that Trump is going to sink the economy:dance:

But this is on Obama, remember?  The employment number being up, the economy on the rise, are all due to what he did before leaving office.  Too many here have said that in the past week or two.  No way you can blame this on Trump now.

You don't seem to understand liberal logic. Everything good happening with the economy is residual effects of Obama (who failed to have one single quarter of GDP higher than any quarter's GDP under Trump). Everything bad is Trump's fault of course.

Trump apparently waved the magic jobs wand Obama talked about.

So my tax deductions for 2018 doubling and my tax rate going down is corporate welfare? Well I'm glad I'm getting corporate welfare because my family can sure use it. It's funny. Even CBS and CNN had to admit in reports they did that basically everyone in the middle class will see their taxes go down. Their big complaint now is the tax cuts aren't permanent.

Sounds like an argument for soclialism.

You conveniently forgot to mention this part of the article you posted regarding AT&T - ""We’re adding people in many areas where we’re seeing increased customer demand for products and services," AT&T said in a statement. "At the same time, technology improvements are driving higher efficiencies and there are some areas where demand for our legacy services continues to decline, and we’re adjusting our workforce in some of those areas as we continue to align our workforce with the changing needs of the business."

I can understand why you didn't mention it though, as it doesn't fit your narrative.

Walmart tends to do well during recessions or periods with downward pressure economics - as outlined in the article.  When more people have more money to spend, those people tend to gravitate away from Walmart's low cost essential and discretionary items, towards more premium purchases - as also outlined in the article.

So the answer to your question is Yes, the economy is growing.  This is confirmed by the latest economic numbers regarding GDP growth.  Some people might not like that answer, because they don't want Trump to succeed, but I would simply ask them why are they putting politics above the economic success of our country.

The closing of W*Mart stores is something that's been known for years.

Putting many small local stores out of business:

" In Whitewright, Texas, Walmart’s closure came just a year after its grand opening and only three months after putting a 60-year-old family-owned grocery store out of business. And in Oriental, N.C., a town of 900 people, Walmart’s new Express store caused the closure of the 44-year-old Town n’ Country grocery store. Now the Express store is empty too, and the nearest grocery store and pharmacy are a 50-minute round-trip drive."

Also, the success of Amazon is one of the reasons that W*Mart is closing stores:

I agree with all of that information.  There is no doubt Walmart has destroyed many small mainstreet stores throughout America.  There are positives and negatives when companies get so big.

That's economics, every downside leads to something positive.

My professor economics used the invention of ship containers as an example. Many dockworkers lost their jobs as a result, but today millions of people have a job because of those containers.

Nowadays we are heading towards an economy where robots are involved. This also leads to new opportunities and possibilities.

Fewer layoffs and fewer jobs moved to Mexico, than if Trump hadn't made that deal, net positive.  MAGA indeed!

Here is the deal. Unemployment is down to the lowest number in decades. Great job market, wages rising.

You can scour the interment and post every company that is lay offing and cherry pick your stories.

What you can't escape is the super low unemployment

I'm sure those not laid off will agree with my take on the matter and there are many more of them.  I guess you would rather have had all of those jobs move to Mexico, because that is what was going to happen?  Are you disputing that fact?

Under pressure from the newly-elected Trump, Carrier and its parent company United Technologies Corp, dropped its plan in late 2016 to close the plant and move 1,400 factory jobs to Mexico. In return, the company received $7 million in state tax breaks to stay in Indiana.

Quote

But Carrier also laid off 338 manufacturing workers in July and another 215 this week. Those jobs are going to the company’s plant in Monterrey, Mexico, where workers make about $3 an hour, according to Indiana union officials.

“Yes he (Trump) saved jobs, yes he did. But he didn’t save mine, he didn’t save manufacturing jobs. He saved office personnel, okay?” said Renee Elliott, 45, who supported Trump in the 2016 election and was among those being laid off on Thursday.

Elliott began working at Carrier in 2013 as a seasonal employee making $13 per hour. She currently makes $18 per hour, taking advantage of overtime shifts, and sometimes works seven days a week.

So, you agree, more jobs were saved than would have been lost if Trump hadn't acted?
