Are we forgetting that we are still running under Obama's Congressional budget?

Trump would have had to have Congress pass a budget right away for it have kicked last in fall.

Not that it matters bigly. the president has no real control over the economy.

I would say the president has minor influence on the economy overall, but much less than people think. Slight influence on fed policy through appointments and some influence on consumer confidence. Nothing else that really effects the short term all that much.

So basically 3 out 4 funds in my retirement account have been right at 20% returns each for last year. My crypto had also made 40% ROI last year so I am doing good.

I was talking with a former coworker yesterday who HATES Trump but he sure is loving the money in his pocket and how the new tax plan has allowed him to get a very nice return this year.  He is hating him less now because he sees his pockets getting fatter

I'm happy for you, and the economy has certainly done well over the last year, but I'm not sure what that has to do with what I posted. Not that quarterly growth is a terribly meaningful statistic, it is what is it, but it is incorrect to say every quarter since Trump has been president has been higher than any quarter under Obama.

You were talking about how quarterly reports are different than annual or year end reports. So I am giving you my report based off of my annual report.

I was responding to a poster who said every quarter under Trump has been better than any quarter under Obama. It's not true. It's going off a report where Trump compared quarters to annual growth.  As we see, There were quarters under Obama over 5%, but never 3% annual growth. Trump has had better overall growth (in a shorter time frame) but he has never had a 5% quarter.

Sorry, I have an aversion to fake news, and occasionally I get side tracked responding to it. Growth has been good overall under Trump, but that poster was incorrect. I do not believe the annual growth rate for 2017 was 3% either, so much ado about nothing.

We got our w2's on Thursday from the USGS. Also you can go ahead and do everything in TurboTax to see what you will get. Have you ever filed taxes before????

Hopefully you were making a joke.  I’ve been doing my own taxes since 1981.  Not every company gets W2s out so quickly.  Not every tax filer only has to wait on a single W2.   I have to wait on two W2s, three 1099s, plus a few other documents. I rarely ever even start before the middle of February.  I also don’t file until April 10th, even though I typically get money back.  Trying not to this year, hopefully I set things up right to have to pay a little.  Only time will tell.  Very hard to get that number just right.

But all of that aside, what I said about the taxes still stands... the new tax bill doesn’t affect 2017 taxes.  That will be next year.

I was making a joke and not being condescending. I only have to deal with one W2 thank God. I am waiting on my school paperwork before I can file for taxis but overall I know around what I am going to get.

I have had to learn to do it early because of an issue years ago with my x-wife. She had filed for my 2 older kids even though I had custody of them and caused me a lot of grief that year. So I had to a paper return because the IRS wouldn't take a electronic copy.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

You’re in NC now, not need to file for taxis.

I use TT to prepare (though I am thinking of switching to a free online version, can’t remember what it’s called now).  But I always print it and mail it last minute.  Not sure if it still reduces the chances of an audit, but I figure it can’t hurt anything.  Especially if I get it right and barely get any money back or better yet owe a little.
