Contacting Consulate- approved I-129F

Hello,

On January 3 we received an email that our approved I-129F had been expedited and sent to the US Embassy in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and that my fiancé would be contacted with further information on scheduling an interview, required documentation, etc. I read that now that a little more than a week has passed, we can start contacting the embassy to find out if they received the package from the NVC and what the next steps are to get an interview.

How do I contact them? When I call the embassy phone, it just sends me to an automated message. When I try calling their "call center" number indicated in the automated message, the call just cuts off.

Since Cambodian mail is not the best, I have heard that in many countries this letter never arrives and the beneficiary has to go to the consulate to personally pick it up. Is this the case or is it embassy-specific?

Edit: I realized you said expedited. I believe The expedite was for uscis process. Now your case will be in the NVC not at the embassy yet.

----

On k1 cases; after the noa2 cases go to NVC first and then sent to the embassies. Even though some noa2s says that "the case has been sent to embassy" it first goes to NVC

So the place you would start calling would would be NVC and the nvc phone information can be found in my signature.

however on another note, since the start of November it takes 6-8 weeks for cases to get to NVC because uscis is not sending them as fast as before. Even for expedited cases unfortunately.. you can find noa2 to NVC related topics around to see how the things flowing.

Good luck!

Hi Naes,

I already got the NOA2. NVC received our case in late December and on Jan 3 they said they forwarded it already to the Embassy.

Ahh ok now I got it :)

i thought it was the noa2 on Jan.

If it's already on it's way to the embassy and you think it will be hard to reach them I'd suggest asking in a regional forum, or wait for someone who knows about the Cambodia cases.

Cause this part usually is embassy specific.

Basically the only way to communicate with the embassy in Phnom Penh is thru email.  I didn't have any issues with that since their replies were prompt.  They will send a hardcopy letter with the interview and required document information to the petitioners US address.

Thank you for your Cambodian-specific response!

How do they send it to my US address? DHL or FedEx? Do I then just take it all with me to Phnom Penh for the interview? At what point can we schedule the interview itself? (And what if the petitioner is not going to attend the interview?! I'm planning on it, but it seems strange to send it to me instead).

You can wait for the letter (regular US postal service) for packet 3 or you can email the embassy and they will email you back packet 3 instead of waiting for the snail mail.  If you email them it will save you a couple of weeks vs waiting for their letter.  We got our packet 3 letter a week or so after we got their email.  The packet 3 will ask you to fill out the DS-160 online, pay fees and have your fiance take the medical exam.  After the DS-160 is filled out the embassy will schedule your interview and send you a letter that you will bring with you to the interview.  You can check out the interview schedule on the embassy website.
