Which is better: civil marriage in Italy or K1 in the States?

Hello everyone!

I am a US citizen, back from working a few years abroad in Italy where I fell in love. My fiancé is currently in Italy and we are working through details for a civil marriage. We plan to make our life in the States. Any advice on wait time and/or the pros/cons on having a civil marriage in Italy and then filing for my (future) husband to join my in the States? or would it be better to seek the route of filing for a K1 to bring him here for us to marry on this side where we will live our life together? 

 

I'm treading extra cautiously around this not only because it impacts our future, but also due to the current political attitudes towards immigration at this time.

You may want to also take a look at the processing times for each - K1 visas have been disastrously hit lately (as well as many other types of forms)

 

FWIW, if I could go back in time, I'd file the CR1/IR1 instead of the K1. It appears to be faster, overall, and cheaper. But you're starting out on a good path by finding this site, I wish I'd known of it sooner, personally
