no one is bad mouthing old white people.

Oh, it happens every day.  Pretty sure even you have said old white guys were “the problem” in times past.

But I was just making a general funny, not pointed at anyone here.  An attempt at levity in a thread that seems to be approaching critical mod mass, if’n you know what I mean.

I am highly offended by this broad blah blah demographic blah blah, that I happen to be a part of

it makes sense to me that older people have experienced a sort of racism that i myself haven't witnessed because beginning of the end for segregation and jim crow was 24 years in the past when i was born. interestingly enough, the high school that i went to in the nineties did not desegregate until 1962. pretty late to the game. but anyway, my grandmother has told me stories of what it was like to live in highly segregated times and my parents have told me stories of how interracial couples were treated back in the early seventies, which i'm sure is different than how they're received today (for example, there's commercials with mixed couples now and there wasn't that kind of acceptance back then) generations have different experiences. i feel like people are taking offense to the word 'old' more that anything else. if it helps, i'll be 40 next year. and i think that's friggin old.

No offense at all.

Back in my day I witnessed

Segregation- ended in my 5th grade year

Separate waiting rooms

Separate water fountains

Klan Marches

No chance at meaningful jobs for blacks in my area

Bi-Racial couple... No way would get you killed

Terrible Beatings in mostly black county work farms (prison)

Not allowed to vote if Black

Segregated Public Housing

Saw a lot of very brave black people make a stand against real racism.

Dang, you’re OLD!!

Just playin’ man.  Not really sure our age differences, but I was born in CA, don’t imagine the same racial issues existed there as it did in your neck of the woods, geographically speaking.  I don’t recall any of that, personally, but it lends credence to what Val is saying about older folks.  To millennials, I am sure racism has a completely different meaning.  And so it shall continue as we grow and things become normal that once were forbidden.

Ironically, my grandmother (mom’s side) who was born in the South would not tolerate any bad talk about blacks.  My dad, however, seems to hold a grudge against them (his father was horribly racist, the N word flowed often).  His family was from PA/NY area.

what so odd in my business, people tend to open up to you without knowing anything about you. I had an older white man come in the other day to see a Philippino co worker. while waiting for him he proceeds to tell me, he is going to hell (the coworker) because he is catholic. Then tells me its ok for him to work with a Phillipino because he was once stationed their. Then tells me he never would have married one of those slant eyed (insert non family friendly expletive of choice)/. I just smiled and walked away, didnt really get mad, just felt some kind of apathy toward him.

Its amazing what people we just open up to you about because they assume you think like them. I had older POS brag to me about how he was a manager in a telecom company for 30 years and was proud of the fact he never hired a black.

You have way more tolerance than me, though it’s so much different at work.  I constantly have to bite my tongue when I am in uniform towards truly stupid and rude people.  Would have been awesome if you’d have had some balut with you and offered him one, telling him your Filipina wife made it for you.  Would have loved to see his face over that!

I will have the balut sandwich with some durian on the side.

i'll be 40 next year

 ma'am.  Here's the math:

Women are their actual age through 29 years.

Then, they're 29 until they're 39.

Then, they're 39 forever thereafter.

I'm obviously an expert in Algebra (the national language of Algeria), si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Well I haven't imagined someone calling me racist yet, so I have that to fall back on.

You wouldn't like it if someone on here implied you are racist, would you?  But keep defending one of the most unprincipled posts to ever appear on CEHST.
