Do you like Country music?

I listen to the country station a lot. I like country music... but I can't really get into the patriotic stuff (I don't really get into Patriotic stuff from Australia either - it always feels to me like patriotism isn't something to stand up and shout about, it's something personal.) Except that song about 9/11 which always makes me cry! They're playing 'Proud to be an American' right now and it's not a bad song. Anyone else listen to this stuff?

It also seems a bit weird to me that at the start of the lunchtime show every day they play a recording of a bunch of little kids saying the pledge of allegiance followed by the national anthem...

and when they have the request show later in the afternoon, people actually ASK them to play it again!

Kajikit, "God Bless The USA" is NOT about 9/11, though it has become immensely more popular since then; it was recorded in 1990 (I remember hearing it on CKRY-105 in Calgary then) by Lee Greenwood.

I happen to like PURE country artists such as:

• Shenandoah
  

Cannot stand some self-proclaimed country such as Shania Twain (actually, she is a pop musician but won't admit that) or kd lang (a total fraud, as her biodata alone refutes her claim to be a reincarnation of Patsy Cline, let alone her voice)--coincidentally (maybe not) both of these are from parts of Canada east of the Divide (Canadian country artists on my OK list all have birthplaces in BC)

Now they're playing American Soldier, another one that comes up at least once a week.

I guess that would be Daryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten?" I agree it is moving.

Ironic, as the artists (Dixie Chicks) were involved in a noticeable (posing nude for magazine cover) antiwar protest shortly after its release--which DID cause some calls for its being pulled.

Not into Country music especially the old style twangy stuff.

But... My hubbys cousin is a well known country music artist. I'll include a pic of him. Maybe someone will guess who he is.

I like some country as long as it's not too twangy. Stuff like Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson is very good stuff.

As for "patriotic" stuff I find it to be complete #######. That song by Lee Greenwood annoys me very much. He makes it sound like the USA is the best country to live in, when in fact right now it is Norway. Songs, and people who think that the USA is better than everyone else, has no place in my life. Don't get me wrong, I do love the USA, but I acknowledge that the USA is not better than everyone else.

Dean, Lisa (Brokop) looks at least an order of magnitude better than Shania (Twain)--I guess that Fraser River water makes a huge difference!

I like what is classified as alt-country. I also like some roots and bluegrass. Some of my favorites are Kasey Chambers (from Australia), Neko Case, Sarah Harmer (from Canada, her new album is country/bluegrass), Tift Merritt and Jenny Lewis (Her new album has a little country/gospel).

They don't play any of those artists on mainstream country stations, except possibly Tift Merritt. You'd be most likely to hear them on public radio.

I also like old country, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
