After reading through all of the requirements and preparing myself for this exciting journey, the one thing that stumps me is the proof of financial support. What kind of proof do they require? Do they require tax statements? If so, is there anything other than tax statements to show that would be accepted? Thanks in advance!

For a K-1 it can be employment and salary verification from the employer, recent pay stubs.  Time to read the instructions for the I-134 and the Embassy website of your beneficiary

Copied from the I134 Instructions.

Submit in duplicate evidence of income and resources, as appropriate:

A. Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions with deposits, identifying the following details

regarding the account:

(1) Date account opened;

(2) Total amount deposited for the past year; and

(3) Present balance.

B. Statement(s) from your employer on business stationery showing:

(1) Date and nature of employment;

(2) Salary paid; and

(3) Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

C. If self-employed:

(1) Copy of last income tax return filed; or

(2) Report of commercial rating concern.

D. List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

I was reading in other forums if your income is sufficient to prove financial support (suggested 125% of poverty line), you don't need to submit D.  I'm submitting C. even though I'm not self employed. Always better to be over prepared than fall short. For B, your HR manager can just write a letter containing that information. I would also print out a few months worth of pay stubs as well. You would need to go to the bank and request statements from them regarding your accounts for A. I feel it's better to have various forms of financial evidence rather than just the ones they request.

This affidavit does not have to be so detailed though because further down the line, when applying for the AOS (adjustment of status) for a green card, you will need to submit another affidavit (I-864 i believe).

I am using [employee] income only to qualify (not assets). Here is what I am bringing:

  • Form I-134 (8 pages)

  • Letter of emplyment (1 page)

  • Three months of paystubs (6 pages)

  • Three years of W-2 forms (3 pages)

  • Three years of tax returns - IRS transcripts (15 pages)

Technically, it is up to each consulate what exactly they want to see (sometimes it is in the consulate instructions); so my list may be an overkill.
