What to know about the 'raw water' trend

Ok, just read it.  Crackpots on both sides.

Well or spring water that has been tested and verified safe by a lab does indeed taste better than tap or bottled water... if it's hard water, that is.  Soft water, not so much.

Bacteria that will harm you?  Laugh.  Thats why you clear a well then have it tested  (modern times). Guess what humans have been drinking for the past 1000 years?

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I used to have a well at my house in Alaska... VERY amazingly good water!  Had to put a softener in because it was so hard, and stained everything.  But I plumbed the fridge prior to the softener, and used that water for drinking and watering down moonshine, etc.  Absolutely THE best water I ever tasted.  About 1200’ thru some really hard rocks and permafrost.

That was a deep well! I'll bet it was as good as it gets from that depth.

Ugh... that is disgusting! The quality of our town water is quite horrible tbh. We routinely have gritty substance that comes out of the taps. Beyond that though, the stuff just doesn't taste very nice at all. Half of us are connected to public water and the rest use wells. Some of the wells became contaminated by a chemical leak. There have been questions over the years of things detected in our water, and last year the next town over also had a violation. Many of us simply don't drink the water here and buy bottles.

Seriously, the other year, a main like broke in Boston and the water was not treated for a few days.  Boil-order water was declated and tests were done... once it was back to normal, they said that "Hundreds of water samples taken Sunday, the second day Greater Boston was under a boil-water order because some pond water was flowing through the area’s pipes, show the water was, in fact, as clean as on a normal day." [Source]- so, depending on the water source, raw water might be just fine.

When I was in college, my university got its water from a municipal well system.  It was so full of iron that you could not tell if you had flushed the toilet.  They did soften the hot water though as one of my jobs was to empty 80 pound bags of salt into the softener.

We don't have a well, but it has been suggested that our tap water is combustible at times, so at least we are covered if there's a power outage on a cold day.
