I noticed many Vietnameses who were issused the US Visa since 2016 have the Visa with wrong order of given name. In Vietnamese, a correct given name order format is middle name- fist name. When converted to English it has to be first name- middle name. But the actual full name format on US visa keeps the same order as Vietnamese given name format. So the middle name becomes first name, middle name becomes first name. then any document such as Social security, ID photo keep the same like that. So what we should do this case? is that necessary to correct it ? if so how we correct it ?

Don't worry about it. Stay consistent. Don't try to change everything around. Worry about the order that you have in the USA and then stay with it. You can change after you get green card. Trying to change documents because you don't like the order of things is a huge mistake. I know, we've been there. Again, don't worry about the name. It doesn't matter.

If you want people to call you by your official middle name, just use it. I know a few people who use their middle name or a nickname as the name they are usually called by. Doesn’t have to match your official name order.

What should you do with the green card? Go to work. Don't worry about names or what order they are in. In America, it doesn't matter. Wait until you either get 10-year GC or citizenship. The key is to leave it alone.

Get a court ordered name change then when i751 rolls around  add name change there.

We added my surname though order was correct western format for her green card. Once we had the court order we changed all the IDs, ssn, bank , utilities ect. It’s a load of work but now everything matches.

We are in the same boat re name order, except my wife is here as IR-1. It is more complicated because she lived in the US previously on a J-1 visa, and so has an existing credit report, authorized user on my credit cards, etc. using her "first middle" name order (Vietnam used to previously use the "first middle" name order, and changed their policy sometime in the past few years).

Do I understand correctly that you are suggesting simply doing a court ordered name change from "middle first last" to "first middle last"?

Can this actually be used to change the name on the green card?

Well you can but since you missed the removal of conditions opportunity I would wait til naturalization.

Otherwise you would have to pay for a new green card which doesn’t make sense if you plan on naturalization.

My wife came as IR1 as she was previously J1 with 2 year home stay requirement.

How much would it cost to change the name (get new green card)? How would I go about doing this? Thanks!

Name change costs and requirements depends on what state and county you are in. I think it cost me maybe $200. (Court fees and run an announcement ad in the local paper)

New replacement card costs $85 biometric and $455 for the card.

Thanks! Did you just use something like legalzoom to apply for a name change? Once it goes through, you just apply for a new green card?

That sounds quite simple. I just want to make sure that won’t create any problems as the name won’t change in my wife’s Vietnamese passport...

Thank you so much!

No we had to file at my local court house and go through their procedure. The wife had to go to court and request the name change in front of the judge. The whole process took a few months.
