Omg relax and take a breath! If nothing comes up nothing to report. Secondly, he was petting a cat and asked to leave a bad area.

Get a lawyer or maybe take a break from this.

He wasn't arrested in any case, I doubt the police officer wrote a report for the cat incident.  He wasn't asked for ID.  If he was the victim in an assault he wasn't arrested.  I don't think you need to worry.

They checked his ID and took his name. This was years before his immigration process even started. Nothing showed up on his police report it was "no trace". I'm not too worried about it but I want to make sure we are doing things the right way. I have looked at the N-400 and have not seen a question about being stopped by police only things like arrests or citations.

It was in a study guide that said you must confess if you've been stopped by police USA or abroad. Perhaps it's wrong. Or maybe they ask you in interview I don't know. I was hoping someone whose been through the process could clarify.

This is NOT a stop or an arrest. Breathe.

Going to pursue a lawyers advice.

If you have a straightforward case (and from what you've said in this thread, it sounds like you do), at least make sure the consultation is free....

From all that you've said in this thread so far, you probably don't need to invest in a lawyer for filling out the forms, but if it gives you peace of mind and you have the money to spend then do what you feel is best for your situation :)

I've been through this. At the interview they go through the application page by page confirming your answers. If you made a mistake or typo, you can say "No, my birthdate is ________" and it gets corrected.

If you husband answers no to being detained, he can pipe up and say "Well I was passenger in a car driven by my wife, and she was pulled over for swerving,  does that count?" And the interviewer will think your husband is a little dense for not understanding that it was the wife driving who was stopped, then he'll carry on to the next question.

Obviously, you are worried you're on here and debating with people when they tell you not to worry. He didn't get arrested so calm down and stop over analyzing it.

Well since the police report is no trace then I'm going to assume nothing was put in his record. I'm going to assume the study guide is just overtly cautious. We will be submitting N-400 next month once his window to submit is open. Thanks for the advice and replies.

This is all your husband has to study for the test:  https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/study-test

Sounds like someone out there is making money off of people that don't know the materials are provided for FREE.
