Looking at K-1 / CR-1 Visas, it is required that you show proof of a good relationship and/or marriage.

what is needed? how do you prove a good marriage when you live in separate countries?

we have an engagement ring receipt, photos of us together, boarding passes from visits, letters sent back and forth, skype call logs, Instant messaging transcripts etc, but if we got married for a CR-1 visa application, how do we prove a good marriage?

We don't share money yet, nor do we have any joint bank accounts or credit cards etc.

I can comment on a UK fiancé (K1) visa.  Gender reference is for example since I don't know yours.

The first part (petition from American) is to establish that he is a US citizen and that he has met the UK citizen in person. If previously married, he has to show the marriage legally ended (divorce decree or death certificate). There are some other things to assure he has not committed crimes against children,  and about how you met and paying money to someone to "purchase" a mail order bride. Those are just to assure her safety by revealing info about him (if applicable).

You don't have to overwhelm them with love letters,  instant messages, engagement rings, etc. The focus is really on meeting the requirements of being American, free to marry (divorced if applicable),  and having met in person within the past two years. And he and she will both declare in a signed statement that they are free to marry and intend to marry within 90 days of her arrival. When that that is established, the petition is approved and she is allowed to apply for the actual visa.

So the next part mostly happens in London. It's going to establish that she meets the requirements to live in the US....free of contagious diseases and addictions or dangerous mental illness, has not committed serious crimes, etc, etc. A London interviewer will not want to see any Facebook pages, photo albums, ring receipts, further trips to see each other or any proof of relationship. It's all about her bringing the required documentation like her birth certificate, medical report, police certificate, and if applicable divorce decree, military discharge, name changes... and she needs to bring proof that her American fiancé has enough income to meet the poverty guidelines to keep her off the dole in America. If he doesn't, his parent or a mate can be her financial sponsor.

This is not as hard as you imagine. It just takes a long wait in a queue that you can't see so you don't know how many are in line or when you'll get to the front. London is a very easy consulate.
