I had a quick question about my wife's (beneficiary's) Indian passport. Right now, it says "unmarried". Does she need to get this changed to "married" before her interview?

Thanks,

Vikas

it would be better if she changes her status to married that has a positive influence and will have her address changed to her in laws place where she presently lives. thats what we did. and later at interview she doesn't have to prove where she lives. because if she doesn't change the address she may encounter the question like she is married and wh doesn't ase stay with in lawws as per indian custom(though i dont know where ur parents live) this is for other people too who have same quetion

ANYBODY ANY COMMENTS

GOD BLESS

Thanks for the help, love. She'll get her status change to married, but I'm not going to touch the address on her passport. I've filled out too many forms with that address and don't want her to explain to the consulate why her passport address is different from what I filled in the forms. She's staying with her parents anyway since I'm in the US :)

Thanks again!

SIX DAYS

Is that the typical time it takes people to get their wife's name updated on the passport?

Did you use the 'Tatkal' scheme?

(I am not too aware of it,, but saw that posted by some people: not sure if it even applicable here..)

Vikas, how long did it take for your wife?

Anyone have any experience with the Chandigarh passport office?

Joe

I didn't do it -- found out it's not necessary as we have the marriage certificate. Visa will be issued in my wife's maiden name.

Also, my wife's last name before and after marriage are the same, so there's no need for a name change.

Hi there my wife got her new passport in six days from A'bad office, i belive it's normal for name change.

Did you guys get the new passport and then sent the I130 and I129F petitions? Or did you change the passport after sending the petitions i.e. sent old passport copies with the applications.

Reason I ask is because I have a similar situation. My wife's last name is different and I have sent copies of her old passport with the applications. I'm wondering if I change her passport now would it cause problems. Her old passport did not indicate our marriage.

I sent an email to Chennai office asking them if I my wife need to get a name change on her passport because it is with her maiden name and I applied with her married name. I recieved one line answer from them

"no need, that is fine"

I am assuming that means I don't need to get her name change, also of what I heard from previous posts, they issue her visa with the name on the passport so there won't be any problem while traveling.

Please correct me If I am wrong.
