5 minutes, everything went fast for us.... Well all except the layover for our connecting flight  That was a 8 hr layover

What did you do during the layover? Just sit near your connecting flight or napping on the seats...? Any problem with officials telling you no lounging in the lounge chairs overnight?

I read just about a whole book, listened to my Ipod and watched the clock  I didn't sleep... But my fiancee and alot of other people did. I only seen security wake one person, and that was because they thought that person was homeless and trying to sleep there for the night. As for lounge chairs..... There aren't any, theseating area is made up of concrete benches... Very Very uncomfortable.

Cassie,

AP documents get processed by Immigration, not Customs.

Yodrak

....

Oh, and the longest I had to wait at JFK Customs was a half hour as they processed my AP documents.

But it's understandable if people confuse the two, as they're most-oft done as "package deal" (exceptions being at Dublin and Shannon PFI's which do immigration ONLY--meaning traveller has to clear customs on landing in US).

CheryXS,

Most often a "package deal"? Perhaps at the land crossings between the US and Canada or Mexico, but not at any US international airport that I've been through. First one is inspected at the immigration stations, then one moves on to collect their checked baggage and then pass through the customs inspections stations.

Yes, people do confuse the two, which is why I try to clear it up when I find a confused post.

By "package-deal", I simply meant that the two inspections (immigration and customs) are done in the same location (the POE at US airports, or PFI if entering from Canada by air).

JFK one of the best POE's -- then I would hesitate to go through most of the ones ranked amongst "worst"!

i thought JFK was ranked as one of the best POEs......after reading this post i am a bit concerned.....my husband's POE is going to be JFK....and he speaks no English....should i be worried?.....is he gonna have a hard time? any advice would be appreciated.........

My guy arrived at JFK POE on May 25 and was somewhat ragged with questions. (see my post http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry944431). I felt they picked on him because he knows only broken English. Practice questions with your guy in English, so he is ready to answer them. Have him carry a paper (you can compose it in English) describing why he is coming, his visa type, and introducing himself with a little of your story; also mentioning that he does not know English. He may have to face unpleasant questions for a few minutes, but it will be over quickly and he will get out fine. Good Luck!.

My fiance arrived at JFK at 10:40a.m yesterday. He remained at the immigration office unitl 7pm. His connecting flight left at 2:40pm. He was supposed to get on the next flight at 7:00pm. They would not let him on that plane although it did not leave until 8:15 because of weight limitations. They were only 44 passengers on that plane. They did not give him a reason as to why he could not get on that 7pm plane. They told him he could not leave until 7am this morning. He ended up being at JFK all night. It was also well lit, cold, and loud. And all that after traveling from Morocco.

I left my home at 4:00pm yesterday to pick him up. I live far from the airport. I thought he would be able to catch that next flight, but nope. I waited until 10:00pm before I left Ohare Airport. I had special plans for us yesterday evening as well. I cancelled and made the reservation later, but we could not even make those.

JFK sucks and so does the airline he flew in on and the connecting flight compamy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really sorry t o hear this awful experience :(

We are in the process of getting a good ticket deal to New York and we will be moving by the middle of July.

I remember putting somewhere in the forms during the visa processing(CR-1) that the POE would be JFK.

But now we got a good deal to Newark, and I was wondering if we can chose the POE as we want.

anybody has a clear idea on this? can I get that ticket and use Newark as the POE?

Please help

I don't know where in the forms you would have put the POE (but I did K1 not CR-1, so I don't know what different paperwork you had) but I would say now that the visa is granted, you can choose any POE you wish, it doesn't matter.

Anyone else with this experience?

I flew into JFK in May because I wanted to get the 90 day EAD (which I did manage to get).

I ended up being stucj there for about two hours with my fiance waiting impatiently in the arrivals hall.

The first immigration guy I spoke with said eveything was fine, but that I would need to be 'reassessed' by someone else. When I aksked about the EAD stamp he said they didn't do it in JFK!

I was then shuffled to a side room, was ordered to put my file in a rack in front of a guy at the desk then told to sit down. There were several other people in the room who looked like they had been waiting a very long time. The immigration people sat at the desk at the front of the room chatting, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. After 30 minutes I was getting really fed-up so I went and asked if there was a problem with my file. They laughed and then told me to sit back down without answering my question or even touching my file. After another hour one of the men signed and leant forward to pick up my file from in front of him. He flicked through it and called me up to the desk. He asked me loads of questions about me and my fiance - how we met, where my fiance was, when we were getting married, what my profession was, then stamped my passport and sent me on my way. I asked for the EAD stamp which he then rummaged around in his desk for and stamped my passport with. He repeatedly told me it was only for 90 days and that I couldn't work until I had a Social Security Card.

Two hours later I was united with my fiance in the arrivals hall, EAD in hand.

The other people waiting in the small room were not spoken to once during the time I was there and no-one seems to be considering their cases. That upset me more than my wait.

I am pleased that from now on I can just go through passport control with the US citizens!

Just one hint though for JFK....I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and it was rediculously busy. The staff were exhausted, stressed and not in good moods as a result. Maybe arriving mid-week would be better?
