You would have to be genuinely curious though, and I don't believe that is the case here.

Typical response from you. I said his level of thinking on this topic is similar to that age range. That doesn't mean I called him that age. I know he is capable of much more when he wants to. It's pretty clear in this case he is intentionally employing more concrete, basic thinking because it suits him.

Concrete.  That stuff that makes solid foundations on which to build.  Equates to strength and security.

Thank you.  You may be smart, but you're also kind sometimes.

It takes a special kind of person to think that someone saying their critical thinking abilities are in the concrete stage of development is a compliment.

Not a good special mind you...

Makes me think they are either calling no one and it’s made up, or they are calling the same numbers over and over (because they answer?), which severely brings the randomization into question.

As a reminder -

You gave two scenarios, the first of which would suggest the polls are fake. Of course you didn't come out and say as much but it was one of two scenarios.

Yes your second scenario questions their randomization, but your first definitely questioned whether they were even real.

Edit - just realized Yuna already appropriately bolded it. I'm not following this thread all that closely right now. I guess repetition is never a bad thing in case you need it more than once for it to stick.

Well it now appears that in addition to communicating at a 7 year old level , you are now special in a bad way.

Thinking, not communicating.

If you want to try summarizing, at least be accurate.

Let me see if I can clear it up for you.  No, I don’t think polls are fake.  Obviously, they happen.  As for the bold part, they can be very real, but very guided.  In order for a poll to be fair, the pollster would have to have no desire nor reason to manipulate the data from those surveyed.

But we have no way of knowing what the sample group is, nor how random it is.  And while my personal sample group of a few hundred friends may be overall small, they reside all over the US, so statistically speaking, SOMEONE I know SHOULD have been polled in my life time, IN MY OPINION.  I realize your math given previously makes that a very small likelihood, so perhaps I am just the outlier here.

But I invited ANYONE on this forum to chime in with knowledge of either themselves or a friend of a friend of a friend getting polled.  So far, no one but Yuna has responded that they have, and even then, her experience was her family DOING the polling.

As an example of why I think polls may be biased, let’s take for example a poll done in New York.  Pretty easy to see how many there would be anti-Trump, and a poll done on his rating would be low.  Or California.  I’m pretty certain that a poll done in only those states, even if the sample group measured in the thousands or hundreds of thousands, would be skewed against Trump.

Do that same polling in GA or AL or AR, and now you may well see some different numbers.  To be truly random and fair, one would need to poll all 50 states, plus Guam an P.R.  Say 50 people from each.  That’s 3500 people.  Spread across the US.  But if using cell phones, that would be very difficult to do.  I’ve had the same cell phone number since 2010 (which has never been rung by a pollster for ANY poll), and the area code remains the same, though I have lived in 4 states in that time.

I am not that familiar with the actual “proof” of a polling being fair and randomized; perhaps that info is published somewhere, but I’ve never seen it.  All I see is the end result.  And I’m sure you are smart enough to know that 10 questions, when asked different ways of different people, can elicit a certain type of response, so that people from very diverse backgrounds could be statistically shown to feel the same way about things.

At any rate, I guess none of this really matters much.  We all have our opinions, and at the end of the day, what a sampling of 1500 or 3000 strangers have to say will either fit our own narrative, and be accepted, or it won’t, and it won’t, eh?

But we can still be friends.  Shoot me a PM with your birth date, and I’ll make you a block of concrete with your name on it. ;)
