People also answer polling questions based on perceptions that can be crafted by biased media.  Unlike just about everyone here in CEHST, not everyone in the US takes the time to become informed beyond what they read in the mainstream media or headlines.

It is not the biased media, just look at his own behavior. The media reacts to what the President does. If the President's behaves and acts like a child he'll get criticism from the media and not praise, it's common sense. He and his supporters can quote employment numbers, the Dow etc etc as much as they like, it doesn't matter, if he wants more credit and praise then he needs to change his behavior to what is respectable to the office of the President of the United States.

So you are suggesting it is better to have a president act according to some standard devised by political leaders and get better polling numbers regardless of their accomplishments, or at least positive news that occurs under their watch.  Got it.

I'm sure they also answer in part based on perceptions from twitter...

Of course, some voters who voted for Trump in 2016, say they still back him but they also said they wish he stop twittering. He just can't help himself.

Funny how despite all of these good economic indicators Trump's approval ratings are the worst of any President in modern history.

What polls are you looking at? One of the more recent polls has him tied whit Obama's approval at the same point in his presidency (with Trump getting 3 times as much negative coverage). I know you really want to believe what you just said but the numbers say otherwise.

Seriously? You find it completely acceptable for the leader of the Free world, the President of the United States to behave in this manner? Certainly setting a dangerous precedent for a low bar in expectations.

Can you imagine if Obama did this in 2009 after being elected? Fox News and their followers would be screaming for more than impeachment from the rooftops.

People don't approve or disapprove of a President purely because of the economy. There isn't one item that they use to rank Presidents. "Approval" is a more of a gestalt. Everyone combines things different, and a minor strength in one area may not outweigh a massive weakness in another.

It should be pretty obvious why his approval ratings are low.

Oddly enough I remember the talking heads during the Clinton years "Its the economy stupid" . was all we heard

I think if you recall from several very long dissertations and analysis of polling methods. That does not count

You've brought that poll up many times. We've already discussed the pollster and how it historically compares to pretty much every other poll. We don't need to rehash it here.

It's best to look at an average of all polls. On the average, he remains about 10 points below Obama in approval (last time I checked, I think Tuesday?))

You misunderstand.

The poll counts. The poll is included in pretty much every site that combines all polls to provide an overall average.

Very rarely does a poll get thrown out and "doesn't count". It's just not best to look at one alone in isolation.

Even if that's true only 10 points down with 3 times as much negative coverage isn't bad.

He gets three times as negative coverage because of his behavior and rightly so. It's not because the media are mean to him, he brings the negative coverage on to himself, it is his own doing. If he stops acting like a petulant immature child then expect coverage in the media to get less negative, it's common sense!

About the poll, nice to see you cherry picked just one (Rasmussen) which leans Republican and then used that one poll to compare it to Obama's average of all polls.

If you take the average of all polls Trump's approval rating is somewhere between 35 to 40%. Can't remember the exact link, but someone on this board posted a graphic showing them, very informative.

No as usual I took massive amounts of bloviating  from multiple sources and reduced it down to a simple short truth
