Traveling with Stamp on Passport but no extension letter?

Hello! 

My green card expired In May 2017, i sent my package to remove conditions In March 2017 but still have not heard anything. I also have lived in the same place for the past 3 years but have never received the extension letter. I called USCIS about 4 months after i filed and they said they cannot resend it and if i needed something as proof of extension they could put a stamp on my passport. Well I never got the stamp because i didn't need it but my grandfather passed away a couple days ago and i need to make an emergency trip to my country so i made an appointment on Jan. 18 to get the stamp and my trip is Jan 23, do you think it's ok to travel with the stamp only or would they not be able to verify and not let me back in? I'm actually so stressed right now. I'd like to know if anyone successfully used the stamp only. I'm flying from Miami to Uruguay, with a connecting flight in Panama City. Any thoughts would be great! Thank You!

03/30/2017 - Date I Received Biometrics Letter (Day 10)

04/14/2017 - Actual Biometrics Appointment @ 10 AM (Day 25)

Never Received  - NOA 

01/18/2018 - I-551 Stamp (Day 305)

06/26/2018 - Case was transferred to NSC. (Day 463)

08/03/2018 - Received 18 month extension letter. (Day 501)

09/01/2018 - Submitted N400! (Day 530)

 

N-400 Citizenship 

Permanent Resident Since: 05/20/2015

Local USCIS Office: Oakland Park, FL 

Applied Online. 

 

09/01/2018 - Application Submitted Online (N-400)

09/07/2018 - Received physical copy of app receipt in the mail. (Day 6)

09/08/2018 - Biometrics Scheduled. (Day 7)

09/27/2018 - Biometrics appointment. (Day 26)

06/21/2019 - Interview Scheduled. (Day 293)

08/10/2019 - Interview - Passed. (Day 343)

08/23/2019 - Oath Ceremony!!! (Day 356)

Ok to travel with the stamp.

Your biggest issue (possibly) could be the airline agent not being familiar with the i-551 stamp; if so, ask for a supervisor.  No issues with CBP, they're familiar with the stamp. May have to go to routine Secondary inspection at MIA.

Absolutely nothing wrong with traveling with the stamp.

People do it all the time.

 

If the airline gives you any kind of trouble when you check in for your flight back to the US, just ask for a supervisor and simply say:

"That is a valid and current I-551 stamp in my passport and it is legal proof that I am a Permanent Resident of the United States".

But most likely you will be fine and nobody will ask you anything.
