Collecting financial evidence for approved I-130

Hello

my my husband and I are almost done with submitting all the paper work we need for the final part of our I-130 required documents .. but we are really baffled by one aspect regarding the Financial evidence for the I-864 ...

when it talks about submitting IRS  tax transcripts as evidence to supprt your AOS  package .. you also get the alternative  choice if you can't access this transcript ..  this is to submit a photocopy of IRS federal income tax returns and w2s ...however my husband was a little confused as he said his w2s are technically his federal tax returns and have all his yearly income details but it seems like it is asking for two things as an alternative to the IRS TAX TRANSCRIPT ... so we were  unsure if the w2s alone would suffice ???

Please help ! We called the customer service but they were really unhelpful

Your husband is not reading the whole of what you highlighted.  You need, if you decide this option, both:  Copies of your Returns AND Copies of the W2's.

Best, however, if you just go here and get the transcripts:  https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

I understand what you are saying and we were having trouble getting the IRS transcripts so that is why we went for the other option ...he said to me that he thought his w2s were his tax returns as

they hold all the information of his annual income ... :/

I think every USC taxpayer understands that the tax return is the Form 1040 or any of its derivatives.

It's confusing to me as I am from the U.K. But I know what you are saying so it's form 1040 along with w2s right ...

Exactly and any supporting schedules that are attached to his 1040

Would he have received that 1040 in the post when he has filed taxes ? Thank you :)

He would have received his W2s via post and then prepared (either himself or via a paid preparer) the Form 1040 (paper form or electronically).  A US citizen is suppose to keep all tax records including the Form 1040 and W2s for a minimum of 7 years.  It is possible that if he had the most simplest of returns, he could have telephonically submitted his return.  As such a re-creation of the actual 1040 can be accomplish quite easily as prior years forms are readily available.

YMMV

W2 comes from his employer in January. It is a wage statement saying how much he earned the previous year, how much was held out for federal taxes, Medicare, and Social Security. He uses that information to fill out a tax return. If he had two jobs, he would get one from each employer.

if he was a contractor, he would get a 1099-MISC wage statement that would be used like a W2 to do taxes and it would be sent in with your tax return since you can't work out how to order the transcript.

Try ordering a transcript by mail if you can 't figure out online. Fill out this form https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506tez.pdf and drop it in the post.
